Exhaust closing is at 2 deg ATDC, intake opening is 2 deg BTDC. That only gives you a -4 deg overlap. The cam teeth are actually 1/42*360 times two, since there are two crank rotations for every complete cam rotation. That is over 17 degrees per tooth. With the one advanced and one retarded, I am surprised it was able to idle at 900 rpms like it did.
