New Stereo and Woofer Install in my '06

I chose the Kenwood because it has support for Android devices. I could have spent a little more and got a bluetooth unit instead of the USB port unit but it charges while it plays this way. I use the USB for the music playback but I have to use the 3.5mm jack to listen to audio-books on the commute. No biggie.

I also got the steering wheel button controller adapter. It is really nice to be able to use the steering wheel buttons to control the music player on my phone.

The sub-woofer is a 26 year old Clarion 100w combo amp/woofer. I had it under the seat of my Mazda B2000 pickup when it was new back in 1986. I took it out of that truck long ago and the woofer sat on a shelf in my garage until now. It mounts under the middle seat of the 5 perfectly.

The Garmin unit was a tricky install design but I have it in a perfect position and made it easily removable to be put in my other vehicles.

Here's a couple of pictures...

Very nice job. Almost looks as if the Clarion sub was designed for this vehicle specifically. I'm a fan of ported subs myself, they sound great in minivans and wagons if you mount them transverse and put them all the way in the back. The head unit looks fine, I'm not a fan of changing out the OEM unit unless there's something specific I need. I plan to add a small brick-style amp to my 2012's 5 OEM unit, and most likely change the speakers this summer. You probably know this but in my 2012 Touring the OEM unit is Bluetooth enabled, I'm able to change songs on my steering wheel when I stream Pandora on my Android using Bluetooth. I haven't tried it for songs actually stored on the Android because I don't have any music saved yet on the phone but I'm willing to bet it probably works the same.

I'm very interested in how that sub ended up sounding. I'm a HUGE fan of keeping things stealth and not doing anything to take away from stock appearance and/or taking up major cargo area. That sub looks like a great fit and was pondering taking out one of the 2nd row seat trays and making my own under the seat. This may be easier. Let me know how it works out.

If you like hi-fidelity music, it works fokken excelent! Its all the sub this little car will ever need and the placement is perfect for sound quality too. It also allows me to keep all of the cargo space.

BTW, @ukelele, the OEM head unit in the '06 was poo poo. No aux input of any kind. Other than a disc changer, it had no redeeming qualities. The Kenwood even makes the stock speakers sound better.

Yes more info on that Clarion subwoofer/amp combo. Model number perhaps???

Its called a PSW160. Remember I said it was new back in the mid '80s (stoned). I'm glad I hung on to it. Now if I can just find a use for all the other crap in my garage that I am "hanging on to"....
