Anyone know where the drain and fill plugs are on the 5spd Manual transmission are on the Mazda 5 . I'm getting to 115,000 km and thinking it's time for a fluid change.
When you find them, please take and post a picture of them as well as any tips you pick up during the job. Some day I'll need to do this work but not for a while since my Mazda5 only has about 13,000 miles on it (about 21,000 km).
and here is the location of the drain plug on the '99 Accord, I'm assuming that the Mazda drain plug would be in a similar location. The fill plug was a few centimeters above the drain plug.
^^ I always change my manual tranny fluid for the first time around 15,000 miles. It's cheap insurance. Every manual tranny I've ever changed the fluid on had some metal in it the first time. Get that crap out of there. Don't wait till 30,000 or 60,000.
I agree with Robotaz on this. Change any fluid in gear cases (whether a transmission or differential, but especially a hypoid differential) relatively soon. I change my diffs by or before 10k miles, often by ~5k miles these days. After that, I'm not worried about changing again unless shift quality fades or I'm towing or something. I've changed the MTX fluid in our '06 5 twice now, and we have just about 55k miles on it.
