Would it be possible? Transplanting the Miata 1.8L (140 hp) rwd engine into the MP5 chassis. Could your also transplant the rear-end?

I know it sounds wired, but it was something that kind of just passed through my head. And if it were possible, FM has turbo kits that will push 245 rwhp. And don't people say rwd handles better than fwd?

It's just a thought....lemme know what you think. I know it'd be expensive(bling)

thanx

Anything is possible if you've got the time and the money.

You can buy a small block V8 kit for a focus, making it 345HP and RWD.

And I remember reading (Car and Driver, I think) somewhere that Mazda was seriously considering sticking in a 6 banger in an MP3 at an auto show (or maybe there was an MP3 with a 6 banger) in it, so yeah, anything's possible if you've got money...

what kind of under body modding would need to be done to fit the different tranny and the rear differential?

you might want to look for info on the jdm sport20 awd...obviously it's possible to get all the hardware back there...so you might want to start there and look how they originally did with parts made for our car...probably with some modification but nothing that's impossible...

It would be easier to buy the miata and weld the P5 body to it. The P5 chassis is not designed for RWD, and would need to be severely modified to allow the drivetrain to fit under the car. This means changing the interior as well, as the new "hump" you welded in for the trans, and driveshaft would raise the center of the interior of the car. Dont get me wrong, it CAN be done, but would it be worth it?

I was just throwing the idea out there.

What about making it AWD?
