MBC vs EBC vs do nothing vs Godzilla

:
MSP & MS3
Ok ok... the Godzilla part was a joke. Seriously though... I know a lot of you people will instantly chime in with your lame-ass "do a search chief" but realize... I'm looking for the most UP TO DATE information possible. If this topic was discussed even a few weeks ago that's not as helpful since there might have been a product released in the past few weeks that wasn't available back then.

For the record, I HAVE done a search and have read a TON about all of this...

I know the drawbacks and disadvantages of the MBC... but at the same time, with an EBC costing 5-10 times as much (ore more!) it might be worth the risk...

For those of you who have an MBC, was it worth the risk?

Though I don't really want to shell out $500+ for an EBC, if it's REALLY worth it in the long run (don't need my engine blowin up) then I suppose I'll bite the bullet.

I guess what I'm really looking for is the best overall bang for the buck (without a tremendous risk to my car) I'd only be boosting it to 10psi anyway but the whole "spiking" issue concerns me.

I'm curious as to what you guys are doing and what everyone's take is on this. Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EBCs can spike just like MBCs...I have JoeP's mbc and it doesnt really spike..other than the normal spiking while accelerating, then it levels off. Some people think ebc's spike more than mbc's..I think there are more factors that come into play besides just the controller...

Plus its easier to go back to stock with a mbc if needed.

Maybe someday I'll upgrade to an EBC..but I dont really need all the bells and whistles like others, or the huge pricetag...

I just installed a "Pirana-MBC":D on my cousins MSP. For a total of $25 you cant go wrong. We still have not seen any spikes or mishaps. It brought the car to life.

You guys are the best!! I cant' believe how fast I got responses!! These are the types of responses I wanted to see!! Naturally the idea of spending a shitload of money on a tiny little palstic box didn't exactly appeal to me. I'm glad the MBC is working out for you guys... I'm gonna roll the die and get one. Now the only question is... which one??? Hmm...

JoePs is good and a lot of people here are using..I also heard that Pirana one works well...

I had the Joep, and now have a blitz SBC-ID. Let me just say that the EBC is by far much better then the MBC. It all jsut depends on how much you wanna spend.

I love the fact that I have 4 boost levels ready at the touch of a button. The boost spike is practically non existant, unlike the mbc, whic could spike as much a 3-4 psi. The EBC has a boost spike protections, which will back down to stock levels if it spikes above a set limit i program.

If I had the money I might get one, but I'm a budget moder right now unfortuneatly...as far as spiking, mine doesnt spike abnormally.

Ok, boostisgood makes a good point... having multiple presets can definitely be worthwhile. (though 4 might be overikill... all I'd need is 2!) anywayz... is the only "disadvantage" with an EBC the price? or are they harder to install as well? This will be my first MAJOR mod so I don't want to get in over my head...

What I would recommend is to get a mbc, try it and if you are convinced that the benefits of the boost outweight the price then upgrade to a ebc. I think a 2 level is sufficient for the MSP. And remember that you are also paying for a solenoid to adjust from inside the car.

You know that Joe P's E-MBC/XZ MBC combo is only 225 shipped, right?

This Joe P E-MBC/XZ MBC combo is a bit of a mystery to me... it's a hybrid is it not? so... best of both worlds??? price is still a bit steep... though, a lot less than an EBC (unless I can score a deal) so is it worth it?? I hear you can get an MBC for like 25 bucks!! does anyone have this setup??? if so... what do you guys think?

And if you really wanted to be cheep-assed, you can go down to a pet supply store and buy a fish tank air regulator. With the minimal amount of boost we run with these cars, either a plastic or brass one will work. I run a MBC in my Mustang, set at 22psi. I didn't get it from JoeP, but it's a home made jobber from another guy who sells to the TurboFord crowd. I never noticed any spiking with it.

If you like electronic gizmos and you have the money, buy and EBC. If you don't need to constantly adjust the boost, buy a MBS, set it and forget it.

i like electronic just because you can adjust on the fly and have presets.

if you only need 2 presets check out the TXS dual stage mbc. it's VERY cool. it gives you 2 solenoids. one for low boost and another for high. there is a switch that needs to get mounted inside. the switch is shielded with a red shield. looks kinda like the arming switch in a jet fighter. that switch switches between low and high boost settings.

i PAID 350 for my Blitz, but I get my schtuff on discount. :D I got my Power meter for a buck80. so I usually save about 40% off my items.

Well at that price I'd get one too!! That's a hell of a deal! Almost 50% off the lowest price I could find on the net. What is this "power meter" you're refering to? Are you telling me we have to buy even MORE stuff to get the EBC going?

This is a bit off topic... but I searched and searched and couldn't find s***! assuming I go with an MBC, how the hell do I tune it properly??? Will the Joe P setup come with detailed, MSP specific instructions or will I have to search around on the net? I'm leaning towards the E-MBC deal.... which, supposedly, allows you to tune it from inside the cabin... anyone here have this thing???

i want the e meter id

give me price i have sbc- id

the spike is minimal only .5 over in 4 gear 5 gear

ebc is the best warning, limiter 4 stages
