Mazdaspeed flywheel

Hi all.

I saw an item on corksport.com called a Mazdaspeed light flywheel. Anybody has it installed?

I am currently riding a 03 Pro5 with Steptronic, I just wonder if this item is useful for auto transmission.

And what can you get out of the flywheel?

hey

the mazdaspeed flywheel doesnt really do that much as it is not much lighter than stock (only a few pounds i think). the idea of a flywheel is to keep the engine moving. the heavier it is the more "stable" the engine is. the lighter it is, the more prone it is to stalling. ie - you have no flywheel, you have no idle.

but you can get about a 9lb flywheel from a few companies (like indigospeed) which would work well.

the idea of a lighter flywheel is to take mass off the engine. the less weight the engine has to move, more power goes to the ground and the engine is more rev happy. similar idea with underdrive pulleys, but a much greater effect.

hope this helps

yeah, but he's got an auto.....

almost completely negates the purpose of the light flywheel

your money would be better spend elsewhere..

having an auto wouldnt totally negate a light flywheel. it is still a reduction of rotational mass. yes i agree that the benefit wont be as great compaired to a manual, but there still would be benefit.

i would still recommend getting a light weight flywheel

Automatics don't have flywheels, they have flexplates. The flywheel WILL NOT even fit onto the automatic. Usually a flexplate is much lighter than a flywheel would be anyway.

I was going to say, I've got it, it's not bad if you don't want a high idle or for it to rev that much higher. It works well for what I want anyways. But as said before, don't buy it if you have an automatic - it won't even fit.

OMFG!!! lol some people are just so stupid
you actually thought that an automatic had a flywheel (smash)... lol
stay in school children (rofl)
