I checked the fluid (I really should have thought of that by myself lmao). 2 observations. 1: It was sitting @ the 'low' mark. 2: The fluid was BLACK and murky. Almost looked thick, it's gross. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that if that's not THE problem, it's definately a major part of it. I'll be bleeding it tomorrow afternoon after work. I'll post impressions afterwards.

I was under the impression that he had already bled the brake system, replacing the fluid.

But I did miss the fact that he was saying he's gonna bleed the clutch.

the clutch slave cylinder uses the brake fluid, right?

dont pay attention to todd i know why you made that comment. The protege is an odd duck, its one of the very few cars i have seen to use the brake master cylander for the clutch also. Most cars like the miata have two different fluid circuits. So the clutch has its own master and slave that is completely seperate from the brakes

Ahhh, OK. In that context, that makes more sense. Didn't know the Protege was like that. Weird.

holy crap I leave you people alone for TEN minutes and this is what I come back and find!? DAMN! Anyway, ya, I bled the brakes, but like Korey said, it's on a separate hydraulic circuit, so that had no effect on the clutch. I really hope this band-aids it well enough until I can get the new slave on.

that and i like when i start i new page cause i get to see the spicy mobile everytime i open the page ^^^^

Alright, bled the clutch, and the thing's still acting wonky. And the wierdest part is there's no real pattern. The only thing that I can sometimes (and not very consistently) repeat is coming to a stop at a light, pushing the clutch to put the car in nutral is fine, then when I go to push it back in to put it into 1st it just drops to the floor and I need to pump it a couple of times to get it back. Is so freaking strange. And like I said, it doesn't do it with any consistency. As it's still doing the same thing, I'm just going to order a new slave from NAPA tomorrow after work. Anyone know what size wrench I need to disconnect the clutch line? And if it needs a flare nut wrench like the brakes?

After installing my new clutch (and not touching the fluid system whatsoever) my pedal did that a couple times.. I had to lube the nub that sticks out of the slave cylinder. It seems weird but that worked?

How exactly did you do that. Did you just lube the tip (BWAHAHAHAHA I couldn't help it), ie the part that contacts the fork, or did you pull it out and lube the whole thing (rofl) (rlaugh)

pull it out ???!? yikes

Yeah, I just kinda spread a little all around the tip and whatever I could get at. Everything was much smoother with the lube.
