I own a 99 Mazda protege,,,I bought it for $500 and I was told the head gasket needed replacement,,I got it replaced and it still blows white smoke out of the exhaust just like it did before I put a new head gasket on,,,I followed all specs and timed the motor perfectly,,,I believe the rings are out,,is this a fair assessment?,,,thanks for any info...(sick)

White smoke = coolant which is head gasket, how did you torque the head bolts? Did you replace the head bolts? Did you resurface the head?

Check your coolant overflow for bubbling while the engine is running.

the head was resurfaced,,,I torqued the head bolts to spec,,,60 ft. lbs...the head bolts were not replaced the shop that I bought the car from said they took it to a machine shop,,and basically just cleaned it,,,I read about the tightening order,,,I also put oil on top of the pistons to see if the rings were shot ,,they held the oil,,,hmmm,,,I know I am going to have to get a new head gasket AGAIN,,lol there are also what looks to be crush washers on the head bolts,,do those need replaced as well?,,thnx

Head bolts need to be replaced when you torque the down they stretch you can only use them once

Can't remember exact torque specs off hand but you're supposed to torque them down then turn another 180 degrees

I guess I am going to have to replace the head..also I see on the end the timing belt goes on that you have to put silicone sealant on that end ,,anyone on here have any good ideas to make sure that I get no leaks from there,,,also I did get new bolts ,,the old ones are shorter,,kinda weird,,also on my dash the battery light is lit checked both the battery and the alternator they both checked out ok,,I did remove the stock air box setup and was wondering if in doing so it made the battery light come on..also I need to get a new stock exhaust manifold,,cheap,.,,any ideas would be kool ,,thnx
