You'll definitely have to test it while moving, because that's when they automatically turn on and can't be turned off.

My experience with the parking brake not auto hold. My 2017 CX-5, after starting, would auto release the parking brake when the accelerator was depressed. I remember reading it in the 2017 manual thinking, great idea. I have not tested it on my 2025. I had a loaner CX-50 for a while and I really liked that when you turn off the car the parking brake automatically engaged. Wish the 2025 CX-5 did that.
Here is an image of the stalk. It might just be a way to run parking lights only? I didn't get out to see if the lower white beam (daylight running light) was still on after I saw the headlights turn off.
I will get back to you on that but I need to test this on a sunny day because the stalk pops back to AUTO after the headlight procedure is completed. What that means to me is that if it's dark out during the day (or night), like it was today, the headlight sensor will turn on the headlights regardless. Stay tuned...
My money says it hasn't changed from the Gen 2 unless the stalk (image from the Gen 3 that I shared here today) is different than it is on the Gen 2. I don't know our '24 Select well enough to say one way or the other. It's the wifey's car.
You'll be happy to know that at least on my '26 Preferred, the actual headlights are not part of the DLR system. See image. Two small projectors below the headlights are what run in the DLR mode. That lower setting on the stalk can actually dim them to a degree as well. But they are small and insignificant so I don't see why there is any need for that. In my supplied image, they are running at full brightness.

Gen 3 Mazda Genuine Accessory disappointment:
I ordered a Mazda brand retractable cargo cover online from Med Center Mazda store at a discounted price. The gap between the seat backs and the cover frame is large enough to let light in, even with the seats set in the reclined position. I'd rather not have a thief able to go window shopping into my new Mazda.

Getting to know my new Gen 3...
There is one complaint that I have always had with modern automatic transmissions.... the shift programming...
Simply put, the trans upshifts depending on the pressure on the gas pedal, in an effort to improve fuel economy. The problem with that is that if you are traveling at a steady, slow speed and the trans decides to shift up to the next gear, the motor gets louder as it labors. Annoying to no end. While I didn't really care for the way a CVT creates a droning effect, I can say that since it works differently, the rpms were almost always perfect, basically eliminating any bog down.
Enter the manual shifter on the Mazda! Since our Gen 2 is the wifey's car, I rarely drive it so I don't have time to experiment with it. In situations like what I described above, simply moving the shifter to the manual mode will hold the ideal gear for as long as it is needed. That was quite refreshing.

Our Gen 2 2024 CX-5 Select will not release the parking brake automatically. It can only be released manually.
My 2016 and 2019 also does it automatically.
I see. Then I presume that the feature is offered on higher trim levels of the Gen 2.
My 2016 was not really a high trim (Touring) , it was one above the base. I thought this feature was available across all trims.
I have a 2020 one trim up from base and it will release the parking brake but I need to press the gas pedal quite a bit and it releases it with a loud bang, not too reassuring...I only tried a couple of times as I was afraid to break something!

Bingo! I thought my 23 Turbo didn’t do it for that reason. A little tap of the gas wasn’t enough, you have to push that pedal while expecting the parking brake to release.
