4TH GEAR IS NOT 1:1 GEAR RATIO. 5TH IS THE CLOSEST..........With that said nice numbers though slightly inflated, Along with everyone else who dyno's in 4th or 3rd.
You are supposed to dyno in which ever gear is closest to 1;1 for the tranny. Just FYI. MNost cars it is 4th but not ours.
my dyno numbers (mustang dyno read low any ways) came back at 202 whp in 5th. Only mod was a K&N air filter. without the airfilter it only made 199whp.
In the end what ever you dyno the base at do the same for all future mods. Same gear, same dyno. Then you'll see your improvements.
you do know that what gear its in really doesn't matter... right? The dyno compensates for that. You could dyno in 3rd, 4th, and 5th and the results would probably only vary ~5-7whp. You usually try to dyno in the gear closest to 1:1 ratio because it generally has the lowest drivetrain loss. And the higher the gear that you dyno in makes for a longer run and more smooth dyno curve.
gear isn't as important as you're making it out to be.
OK, very important for all who plan to pay for dynos in the future: Put the hood down if at all possible. In my dyno runs, I got significantly different numbers from the hood up vs down. They were higher with the hood down.
You want the numbers to represent the driving configuration. i.e. driving on the street.
Also, Let the car cool about 5-10 min between runs to eliminate heat-soak losses.
