So my wife and I were walking out of Home Depot this weekend and found a man wrestling a pair of toddlers into booster seats in the Explorer parked next to us. Upon getting closer, we noticed his door was firmly planted into mine and bouncing up and down with the kids. He left a quarter-sized dent in my rear passenger door and some deep scratches to match. They doesn't look like they made it through the clear coat.
My wife called him out on this fact. I might add, being on the receiving end of her wrath more than once, I was quite amused. The man was very apologetic and gave me his email address and phone number. He said to take it somewhere to have it buffed out and send him the bill. As he was driving away, I took pictures and wrote down his license plate number just to be safe.
I'm trying to figure out how to proceed:

I'm trying to figure out how to proceed:
- Do I take it to a body shop and hope they can buff it out? Keep in mind that there is also a fairly shallow but noticeable dent which goes along with the scratches.
- Do I get my insurance involved? The guy was pretty nice about it. I dont want to unleash the sharks on him unless absolutely necessary.
- Do I just ignore it and let my baby drive around wounded?
- Is there some new body shop technology that can actually get out pockmarked dents without necessitating new paint?
