CX-5 Windshield Wipers Don't Turn Off

Hi all,

I have a 2021 CX-5. Just today, the windshield wipers won't turn off. I turned the car on and they immediately started working, despite no rain. After a few moments, I turned the car off and back on and that didn't help. I made sure that the stalk is in the off position and that didn't do anything. They increased speed when I turned it to the high position but didn't stop back in off. I tried a "wiper reset" that I found online and I think that helped (turn car off, wiper stalk up twice, ignition on without foot on gas, wiper stalk up one more time, then turn car on). But when I turn the wipers on they won't turn off again.

Is this a bad relay switch? Or a bad motor? Is there an easy way to replace it? I start medical school in a few months and can't really afford to spend $400 at the dealer for them to fix it.

It could definitely be a relay. Unfortunately, the wiper relays are internal to the front BCM, and so I don't believe they are easily replaceable.

What if you go into your settings and turn off rain sensing wipers, do they still stay on? If they turn off it sounds like an issue with the sensing system, if they stay on then likely a relay or stalk issue?
