Car Care Question

:
2003 Black Mica MSP
I was wondering if you all use Armorall (not spelled right) on your dash and so on. I was reading the manual and it said dont use anything with caustic in it, but the bottle that I have says nothing about the ingrediant. If you use it have you noticed any changes in color, or fading, etc. Thanks

Matt

No man, as long as its on vinyl it is actully good for it. The sun will break down vinyl, and a protectent (any of the top brands)will slow that process down and stop discoloration.

Well that thread doesn't answer anything. Some people will always have their own ways. I talked to a long time car detailer and he told me it is good as long as you dont over use it. I have used the stuff in all 6 of the cars I have owned and never had a problem. What ever floats your boat really. I just put in my 2 cents.

its all about the california mini-duster! I love that think, if u don't have the car duster and the dash duster, go pick them up, best car care products I have bought !!

I'm not big on ArmorAll - bad experiences over the years.

I currently use Vinylex (by Lexol). You can usually find it in auto stores (Pep Boys, etc.) for about $6-7 in a spray bottle.

Great stuff - not that "tacky" shiny look ArmorAll can leave and it doesn't leave everything slippery...

aiight im gonna break the myth here, armorall is great, but the cracking ppl have happened into is cuz they dont keep it up, when you start with armorall you have to continue to use it. You cant use it once and then month later use it agian, it dont work that way, use it about once every other week or every time u wash your car, armorall gives a clean look not tacky.

but if you truely don't like the shiny u can alway use regular water and a sponge, or alcohol works too.

oh btw its only slippery if you dont whipe it a second time with a paper towel..

my method is i use armorall whipes over the intire vinyl parts of the car, then i go back with the shop towels the blue ones and whipe off the armorall. leaves a clean appearance, not WET shiny...

You're talking to another one right now.;)

Armor All acts like suntan oil and actually magnifies the sun's rays, plus the oil in it attracts dust. Use something that has no gloss to it, like Blue Magic Leather and Vinyl cleaner. I personally use a plain ol' damp chamois. :)

Armour All, and any petroleum-based carcare products, are bad I hear. They dry the plastic up overtime resulting in cracks and the likes. I can't recall where I found this info so.....

You're best to use products sold in outdoor/outfitter stores used as protectants for boats/kayaks/canoes etc. These products are actually rated at 40 SPF too so it's good for UV protection at least. Great to apply on yourself too when you don't have suntan lotions around. :)

I can't think of the brand I got off the top of my head right now.

Stay away from Armor-All ... keep the dash looking natural. Cali mini dusters and SWIFFER cloths work amazingly well. If for some reason you have dirt (and not just dust) on the dash, you can use a very mild soap diluted in water to kinda towel on to get the contaminant off. Also, if you have painted dash panels like I do, treat them like you would your exterior paint. Wash them with your car shampoo, polish, and wax.

natey is the man.

plus armor all smells like crap..wouldnt you rather have your new car smell lasting a longer time without it?

I didn't like the sun glare from the Armorall. Now I just wipe it with a wet rag. I had many occasions in my 88 GT Turbo where the sun glare made it VERY difficult to see when the sun hit the shiny dash just right. The dash is dull for a reason. If its a show car and you really dont need it for normal every day life, shine the crap out of it.

Alright it looks like my info was bad cause there is way to much concesious here. So my question is how the hell do I get that crap off my vinyl.

from a previous post, nate said to use the blue magic stuff to actually get the armorall off. then just use a wet chaomois to clean.

The Blue Magic works great. For s**** and giggles I bought a bottle of Mothers vinyl protectant. Stuff is nice, not shinny smells really good and I trust mothers. Anyone ever tried this stuff. I just did a little bit to test it out.
