looking at a 2012 5,but it sucks that mazda does not offer a factory navigation or usb for real ipod use on north american mazda5.the last gen 5 had navi. what do you guys think.can the 2012s have a double din aftermarket navi stereo installed.i know the car is new so just putting it out there for all the audio buffs.(uhm)

I can't give a definitive answer but I assume that you can put in a 2-DIN receiver, thus can put in the aftermarket navi stereo. Check www.crutchfield.com, see what they say. Or just call them.

I swapped out the stereo on my '09 Sport a few months after I bought it, I can't imagine living with the factory radio. It stunk. It did have an auxilliary input, but that was it. It couldn't read .mp3s off of CD-Rs, no USB inputs, poor display, took up twice the room it needed to, etc.

That being said, I'm actually considering a 2-din navigation stereo for it, I would move the aftermarket radio I have there now into my commuter car (a '99 Accord). There are a lot of really neat options and the cost is a lot less than $2,500.

So has anyone found a place to buy a DIN kit for the 2012 mazda 5? I can't find one anywhere.

in my opinion, just get a garmin. maps are updatable, has an SD card slot for more space, and you can get a decent sized unit for about $100. MUCH easier than swapping out a stereo.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the bezzel from the 06 to 010 5s might be the same size and shape. I would drop into the dealer or find afriend and see if they do match. Unplugging and removal of my factory 05s unit was one of the eassiset radio installs of my life. You only have to pull the gear selector off and three screws to get that assy out. then remove two screws under the radio and the whole HU pulls out ! Unplug Antenna lead and a multi plug and your done.

If the 2012 is unique you know the Asian aftermarket guys will start pumping out units in about six months. Ps go to E-Bay and see the seller "Populargift" send them a EMail, he's who I bought my HU from and they were really very good.

Let us know haw it worked out. Don

It doesn't look like the 2010 dash kits will work and no one seems to have the 2012. If anyone knows how to find the 2012 dash kit that would be of great help. I'm getting tired of the stock stereo.

I bought a 2012, and would have loved an in dash nav. I don't care for the garmins or whatever, looks ridiculous. That said, I use my phone most of the time.

As far has no USB, it has an aux input, like my 2010 Mazda Miata, and that totally works with ipod.

New faceplates in Monday

I bought a new 2012 Mazda5 GT on Tuesday night, and am having tint and a new stereo system installed. My installer tells me the new faceplates for the 2012 Mazda5's are coming out on Monday of next week.

The GT's bluetooth is pretty lousy, but I am impressed that the steering wheel controls do allow track skipping. That said, I'll likely get either an Alpine or the new Pioneer DEH-P9400BH .
