ABS and Parking Brake On (intermittent)

Hello Everyone,

The abs and parking brake light have started to come on and off in the past month or so. I tried to read the DTC code with an OBD2 reader but the reader says "No DTC code found". I think the problem is related to temperature. We had 3-4 weeks of 30degrees outside temperature and the lights were always on. Now, the average night temperature is around 5-10 degrees and daytime 20 degrees. It is 10 degrees this morning and both lights are off. I did a complete brake job 3 months ago (rotors, pads and new rear calipers). Also, sometimes both lights will be off when I start the car but after driving 10-15 km they will come on.

Should I try shorting the pin under the hood if the abs and parking brake come on again to get the code ? Should I just put the car on stands and verify each ABS sensor (voltage and/or resistance) ?

Please advice.

Ren

You really should do the jumper wire thing under the hood,... that will tell you exactly why the lights are going off.

The brake codes come from the ABS head unit and are separate from the cars ECU.
The head unit may have stored the trouble code,.. even if the trouble lights are now off.

Here's some info to get you started.

what you should do is pop the hood, and have a look at the fluid level in the reservoir. low fluid level will cause the light to come on. (there is a sensor in the reservoir just for that purpose) be aware that low fluid level can mean two things: low brake pads, or a leak in the system.

Intermittent abs and brake light is a bad sensor or connection. Do the breakout box short described above.
