Your Average Silver P5

I did some work today. Yesterday I painted one side of the Mishimoto intercooler all black with BBQ paint to cover up the logo.

I decided to spray "GFN" on the intercooler which stands for goodfornothing which is my DJ/producer name ;), just to add a little customization.
I used contact paper / shelf liner as a stencil. I printed out what I wanted on paper, taped it on top of the contact paper and used an xacto knife to cut out the letters.

Then I sprayed 2 light coats of Duplicolor red engine enamel.

Other than that, I FINALLY changed my gear oil . Used lucas oil stablizer and penzoil syncromesh. My car was in dire need of a gear old change and it was well past due of one. I drove it around the block and the shifter feels a little smoother. Can't really say yet though but I'm glad I did it. The old oil that came out was NAAAASTAAY.

I have a squeaky clutch so I'll be replacing the master and slave clutch cylinder soon. Next week I'm going to replace the valve cover gasket and mod the crash bar to fit the intercooler. I figured it's best to install the intercooler now and hook it up once the turbo is in. Can you say "Interfooler" :D

Just purchased a bunch of stuff right meow:

I won a prosport oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge on ebay for $80. I won't be using the Oil Temp gauge so it'll be up for sale.

Things added to bought list:
1) Exhaust Manifold Gasket
2) S Pipe -> J Pipe gasket
3) Turbo Oil return flange gasket
7) Prosport Oil Pressure Gauge
9) MSP Check Valve
10) Millenia PCV
11) Water Fittings x2 (Feed / Return)
12) Water Line Hose

Intercooler will be installed this weekend and the following weekend the turbo will be put in :D

niiiice! glad your enjoying everything. i like what you did with the intercooler :) just hit me up if you have anymore questions! ohh and btw who was it that sells the jdp replicas?

You should look into doing your oil pump. Check out the thread in DocB Racing.
Will do, thanks for the info!

PM MSPSILVER24 for the JDP-Style lip. It's $185 shipped if he has them in stock and he ships it out pretty quick. Ordered mine on a Saturday and received it the following monday. I texted you some questions but you didn't reply lol. Do you still have the clamp for the turbo inlet coupler? What size is it? I can just find it at a nearby autostore so you won't have to ship it.

ohh s*** really? i was probably working haha. and i sent out the clamp a couple days ago, i dont see why you shouldnt have it by now? :/

Hmm I texted you the right address lol. Maybe it's an issue with the shipping carrier. poopskiez.

Well I just pulled my back picking up my motorcycle after it fell from putting it down from the swingarm stand -___- I hope it'll be fine by Saturday so I can install the intercooler. Bending over is a byatch. Literally!

I want to tap into the coolant lines from the TB and route it to the turbo. I tried looking it up on the service manual but I don't know where the water lines are. I also don't know which one would be the feed and return. Any help?

If you look at the throttle body there are two coolant hoses one at the bottom and one at the top. If you trace the coolant lines around it you will find them. I believe I am correct for which direction the flow goes but I could be mistaken. Here is some pics;

The spring clamps are what you are looking at.
So the little one right in the middle I think is the feed and it comes off a pipe that hooks directly to the thermostat housing.

That then goes to the top of the throttle body.

This one I believe is the return. The small hose that heads straight upwards then bends toward the throttle body. It goes into the big water housing attached to the tranny side of the head. I think it it the return since it is the connection to the top of the rad.

And you see the clamp way in there... That is where it comes from the throttle body.

Anybody chime in if I have it backwards.

No prob. I wished I could have had pics like this when I was figuring things out. So I figured I could help.

Nvm, found this

"Following a hot shutdown of a turbocharger, heat soak begins. This means that the heat in the head, exhaust manifold, and turbine housing finds it way to the turbo’s center housing, raising its temperature. These extreme temperatures in the center housing can result in oil coking.

To minimize the effects of heat soak-back, water-cooled center housings were introduced. These use coolant from the engine to act as a heat sink after engine shutdown, preventing the oil from coking. The water lines utilize a thermal siphon effect to reduce the peak heat soak-back temperature after key-off. The layout of the pipes should minimize peaks and troughs with the (cool) water inlet on the low side. To help this along, it is advantageous to tilt the turbocharger about 25 about the axis of shaft rotation."

I'm a little confused as to which part I need for the water return. To my understand, they feed and return both use 14mm banjo fittings correct? I'm just confused as to where the water return goes to and which connections are needed. If I don't run a water line, will a turbo timer help to prevent heat soak into the turbo?

You need to make the turbo tilt about 20 degrees and have the side that is down connected to the one closer to the throttle body and the one that is up connected to the one that hooks up to the same part as the upper rad hose.

It doesn't matter. The insides of the coolant passages on the turbo are identical for ease of installation.

Got some stuff in the mail last week:

Also installed le intercooler. Currently running it as an interfooler haha :). Took me a long time to fit it due to the lack/malfunction of my power tools.

I hooked up my boost gauge and oil pressure gauge, but haven't hooked up the senders yet. All of that will be done this weekend! I plan to pull an all nighter and install the turbo friday night with the help of good friends and beer. I. am. super. STOKED!

Got everything I need for the install tomorrow night! I just need to pick up more oil, which sucks because I just did an oil change ~1500 miles ago lol, but who cares! Gonna get some little things done today so I won't have much for tomorrow!

The install went well for the most part. I'll update with pics soon. I'm getting some slight bogging issues when boosting. I'm going to change my plugs and plug wires first, what do you guys recommend? I know I'll be sticking to NGK, I just don't know which ones are good for a turbo car.

I've been neglecting my gay thread for a while, so I'll post the updates that should've been here in the first place lol.

So I've ran into issues with the turbo the past few weeks, one was the bogging (which was fixed by changing plugs, duh!) and the recent stalling issues after decelerating. That was fixed as well by moving the MAF closer to the TB and away from the BOV. The BOV was also tightened up more and that instantly fixed the idle problems. It's been 2 days but so far so good. Now pics!

Next up, gonna get some motor mounts, 3" exhaust, and a turbo timer. I'm looking into the viper type alarms that come with a turbo timer, which is pretty nifty. After that, gonna save up for some coilovers and go FLUSH! (rei)

the bear decal on your intercooler/turbo piping may be the single most awesome thing ive ever seen

i vote car of the year ;)
