Yellow mp3 paint=no clear coat

yeah and I think all colors of the p5 don't have clearcoats except for the silver and I think the white

All cars must have clear coat on the paint to protect and give out shine from the light. The only differences might be the reflection on a different base color or the kind of clear coat that they used. Consult your autobody shop for details.

Nope. Even Mazda NA says that the yellow doesn't have clear coat. They say it doesn't need it. My front bumper and hood says otherwise though.

Solid colors (not metalic) like this yellow or solid white, black and red often don't have any clear over the paint. The color is cathalysed like clear and have all the finishing stuff (clear) already in the color. It is call urethane enamel paint. Colors that use clear over it are call base coat

This paint is used on solid color to keep a more brilliant finish of the color. If you take in example a black color, the black will be more deep with urethane solid color than a black base coat with clear coat.

All I know is that our freaking paint sucks the big one....If my door opens and barely touches something I'll chip off a lil piece of paint...After a Turbo, I'll probably get my whole car redone..In the same color, but REAL thick with a good amount of clear.

I thought it was an interesting topic because there was no original post by Kooldino. I clicked on the link and there was no first post. That's why I said this is an interesting topic. As for my Protege's paint, mine is perfect. No chipping and no swirls.

I wonder how much it would cost to get my entire car repainted someday in the same exact color (laser blue). My hood has small chips and my bumper as well. What would it cost to get stripped down and done with QUALITY by a reputable paint shop? $2000?

That is about right...When I had my old RX7 repainted, it cost about $2500 for a quality job. All panels were removed and they didn't paint parts that weren't supposed to be painted...lol

I don't know what it is with Mazda paint especially the early 90's models. The paint flakes off like a shell from a hard boiled egg.

The paint on my '01 Protege is much better than the paint on my previous Mazdas, but still leaves much to be desired.

Hey. Sorry, I DID post something yesterday (I don't think it won't let you post a thread if you don't post something in it anyway), but either the site was being ***** or I just had a bad connection to it. :-( So I guess it just "dropped" my text. That's what you get when you have Canadians running websites.

:-D

(that's a JOKE for all of you who don't know me)

Anyway, I basically posted about how when I took my car in yesterday to get the dents from the guy hitting it (while it was parked) fixed, and the shop manager cleaned off a section of the paint with some compound, the yellow came off on his rag. He then told me it was a "single stage" paint job, etc, and that it didn't have a clear coat.

I know it's old news, etc...but people were going back and forth about it anyway...and this just confirmed it for me.

Actually what he might have had on his rag was oxidization from the paint and not the actually paint comming off. I've noticed this with pretty much every car I've ever waxed (especially red cars). A mild compound will do that to any car you apply it too.

No need to worry bro, your car is fine. The first time I waxed my MP3, I had a lot of yellow residue and it mostly appeared after I removed the cleaner from the rear bumper. Everywhere else was fine though, but I'm not gonna say he doesn't know what he was talking about. He knows more than I'll ever know about paint since it is his job.
