Ive been looking at putting a set of Yakima racks on my MS6. I already have perm yakima tracks on my trail truck, so when im not using my basket and lights, I just pull the control towers off and hang it all up. Its a very user friendly system and is very nice setup.
However, was looking at what yakima rec for my MS6, they rec Q towers, when I looked at the instruction sheet online, its appears they could possibly dig into paint over time and/or cause fitment issues with closing my doors. Not sure since i have not seen them in person on a MS6.
Option 2 is to put a set of the perm 42" tracks on my car, I would much rather use the perm tracks but am cautious as drilling into my roof (no sunroof on my MS6)
So my question is, has anyone on here used either system on their MS6 and what has your experience been or ur thoughts?

I had a friend with the Q Towers. He used them for bikes and snowboards. He really liked them.

Edit: It was on a Subi not a MS6 though.

Did you decide which ones to go with? Im am also looking at the Q towers because I dont want permanent tracks. What size cross bars are going to use as well?

im actually overseas on business at the moment. im still waiting to hear from someone on the Q towers possibly rubbing paint off through the vinyl strip yakima supplies. i would prefer the perm racks, on my truck i couldnt ask for more, they are almost perfect. i still havent decided on bar length, i usually buy the ones the stick out from the side a lil ways, then cut them to fit the length i want to match the vehicle perfect

I think Evolved was looking into these kinds of things. He was looking at a rack system that you don't have to drill into the body panels for if I recall correctly. You should PM him.

Are you stuck on Yakima? Thule makes podiums that mount to the factory fix points. Holes are already there, so no need to drill or clamp.

i would have to say i am pretty stuck with yakima, everything for my boards, bikes, offroad basket, and spare crossbars are all yakima. i hate to start mix matching things now to run into comp issues later or have to buy new parts

This is the route I plan on going come spring/summer time. Thule makes quality stuff and I don't have to worry about drilling holes and what not.

cross bars would be the only thing non compatible. your carriers will all fit. but I can understand not wanting to buy new crossbars as those are a little pricey.

but if you ever decide, Thule 460 and 460r are the podiums that use the factory speed 6 mounts.

thank you mush, i was actually looking over at thule just now, trying to figure out comp issues. thule makes a great product for d@mn sure

i have q towers and just overly wrapped the clips with electrical tape and haven't had a problem with the paint, i did this only mirage as well when i had it and also had no problems

I use a Yakima rack with Q towers for hauling a canoe. They have never caused any of the problems you're worried about. The rubber pads don't damage the paint and the clips are covered with teflon tape to protect the door seal. I don't leave it on all year though – just when I need it. You should expect any clip-on rack to deform the door seal if you leave the rack on forever.
