XelderX's T25 Pro5 thread

Zoom Zoom Boom X 3
Well after a long and very fulfilling N/A existence my Pro5 is finally on jackstands waiting for a turbo. I'm making this thread to help keep my build on the right track and as a resource for me to gain knowledge from all those who have already been down this road. Parts should start coming in late this week or early next week. I have a local race shop that can get me any Russell AN fitting or NPT adapter along with custom cut SS braided line. I plan on using the coolant nipples where the throttle body used to hook up for coolant supply. I will probably just get the MSP oil feed tee from the dealer for simplicity.

List of parts in hand or in transit:
Thunder Tubular Manifold---Got it
MSP T25 w/ ATP 6psi wastegate---Got It
S-pipe/J-pipe---Got it
MSP ECU----Got it
FMIC w/o piping---Got it
SLS J-mid-pipe..no cat---Got it
fittings/hoses for oil---Got it
fittings/hoses for coolant---Got it
HKS SSQV BOV---Got it
Boost Gauge---Got it

List of parts I need:

piping/couplers/clamps for FMIC

This project will get divided into several smaller steps to make it easier. The first major project will be to make the intake and FMIC piping. I'm not sure if I want to get one of those universal piping kits from Ebay or just get the silicone couplers from ATP and get a local shop to bend the pipes if needed.

The only thing I will hopefully have to farm out on this step is the welding of the BOV mounting plate.

if you can get a mandrel bender at a shop, id get them custom bent to what you need, on my old pro, i did the ebay way, i had WAY to many couplers... i went through about 10-12 to get all the bends right..

This is what I was thinking as well.

If you want a complete set of tubes cutom done. I can put in touch with a friend of mine. He has a set of polished alum. tubes sitting on the floor in his shop that was fabricated for a MSP. Plus if you want the the intercooler he has that also. Give me a pm if you are interested.

good luck!...looks like everyone seems to be coming over to the darkside lately

Well, whatever you need from ATP, let me know...I'm an ATP dealer.

As for the piping, there are three ways to go:

-steel
-aluminum
-stainless ($$$)

If you're on a budget, go for one of the first two. It's easier to find people who can weld steel, but many shops are set up to do aluminum as well. Anyway, get your hands on a 14" chop saw. Buy the raw piping in the proper diameters. Buy some straights and some U-bends. The logic in the U bends is that they only cost a little more than a 90* bend, and if you cut them in half, you have two 90s.

Moving right along. Take that chop saw and use it to make nice clean cuts for your piping. Duct tape said piping together until you're happy with the shape of it. Take it to a welder, and have him weld it up just how you have it.

Also, I would suggest putting the MAF on the boosted side (about 14" from the TB) and putting your BOV on the hot pipe, and venting to atmosphere. For the BOV, use a Greddy RS or an HKS SSQ.

I've got a bandsaw to handle the pipe cutting. Makes it simple. I just want to make sure I got the BOV placement correct. Hot Pipe is referring to the pipe between the turbo and intercooler? If so I should have plenty of room there since the A/C is gone.

Awsome, Justin! I wasn't expecting this and definately look forward to where it is going! :)

Hell...it's not like I blow up N/A motors a lot or anything. What could go wrong?!

lol, that thought crossed my mind, but I didn't want to say anything ;).

I really want to get started on this, but I have to wait for parts to show up. Manifold, turbo and s-pipe should be here on Monday. The intercooler should be here very shortly after that so I can start fabbing up the piping. I plan on running it just to either side of the stock Pro5 radiator like the old Spool kits. That requires a little bit of cutting and grinding which I'm actually looking forward to.

Freakin' better, I want to see what a setup P5 with some actual power and a good driver can do!

It might come out to play, but probably not on R'comps unless I just happen to have a set. We'll see. One package arrived today, but I haven't went to the garage to see what it was.
