I'll snap a few pictures, but I don't consider it very interesting. I'm hoping to have the header welded up this weekend. If I can over come that hurdle I should be able to knock the rest of this thing out once I figure out how to wire up this 1.8L.

The motor/trans is now temporarily mounted back into the car. I'm hoping to trailer it over to my friends shop early next week to have the header/exhaust work done. The rest of the work is just small things to here or there to make it all functional again. I need to swap the P/S reservoir back over to the 1st Gen one, install clutch/flywheel, mount the crank sensor, finish the intake manifold, sort out the wiring, and hopefully have her on the dyno before August 14th.
I have been watching this thread with some interest as well...because it may have a lot to do with where we take our car next.
FWIW, remember the ZX2 also shares the BG platform...and has a decent 2.0 Ford Zetec (lots of aftermarket). Its not as revvy as the 1.8, but it will spin well into the 7000's and makes good torque and power. Best of all, ZX2s are everywhere.
So unless you are fixated on having a "Mazda" engine...for FSP, the ZX2 should be a serious contender.
Our ST ZX2 S/R is about 2240# with A/C...we could get pretty near 2200 with some uberlight 15" wheels--have 17 pound 17" wheels now. We are at no loss for power either--guessing close to 155-160 at the crank in ST trim. In SP we could add a proper header and remove the cat for even more--as well as a bigger TB, and possibly a more free-flowing intake too.

dont wanna skew this too far off topic, but it has a bit to do with keeping the mazda 1.8L i dont think i plan on building one for auto x (havent fully come to a decision yet) although the zx2 is the heaviest of the BG chassis cars along with the closely related MX-3 the escort GT and protege are the lighter ones of that group...and what ever i do weight is going to be a big concern....right now the plans are looking in the 2000-2100lb range with over 300whp....useless for auto-x but a whole ton of fun...this thread though is really helpful in planning out the suspension area.
Now that I can't run the 2.0L motor the switch to the 2 door Escort GT was a consideration, and if the car performs well this year I'm sure there will be a few Escorts GTs popping up next year. I'm sticking with the Mazda 4 door specifically for the Mazdaspeed contingency money. Mueller's Focus really showed some promise for the heavier FWD cars in FSP which would have never been possible until the wider Hoosiers came out. Now the diversity of competitive cars (light vs powerful vs middle of the road) makes FSP a lot of fun, because there is not one chassis or one driver you have to watch out for. The speed at which FSP has gotten faster over the last few years shows how much everyone is pushing.
besides the larger rear sway bar what would have been the point behind swtching to the egt? my understanding is they weigh the same and you actually have more rear tire clearance with the pro

I went on KBB.com and compared a 1992 ProLX, a 2000 ZX2 and a 1992 EGT.
Weights (curb) were: 2487, 2478 and 2458 respectively.
The Zetec had almost 15 lb/ft better torque at 250 less RPMs (in stock form).
I agree that 100 pounds is significant, though I am unsure as to what to believe for 'actual' weights on these cars. I also think that the extra grunt of the 2.0 over the 1.8 is worth considering, and is also significant--again going back to the Mueller 2.3 Focus example...heavy and powerful is still fast, at least in that case. The BG question is maybe 100 pounds worth the extra power (ZX2 S/R is 150hp stock--mainly from intake and PCM improvements over a 'normal' 130hp Zetec--all will still have better torque than any 1.8).

Yep. I guess it's kind of a trademark at this point. This is about the 4th block I've painted gold. I was hoping to take some better pictures today, but i had a little setback with my BMW. The stupid actuator for the clutch master cylinder decided to break in rush hour traffic. It looks like I'll have to get a new master cylinder as it's all made together.
