WTF moments with my Speed.

I have now passed 1000 miles of ownership with my MS6 and have encountered some moments that make me scratch my head and say "WTF?". Of course some things mentioned below I have no control over.

1. Hot Fenders - has anyone noticed how sometimes the front fenders get extremely warm to the touch? I think I know the difference between the sun glaring down and warming the fenders vs. an extreme amount of heat coming off of the engine.

2. Felt Lined Wheel Wells - WTF? - during my first hand washing I found the rear wheel wells were lined with felt. Now I do not know about the rest of you, but I like to keep my wells clean. I cannot wait to see what months of salty Pennsylvania roads will do to that nice fabric in there.

3. Bouncing Headlights - nobody likes a little giggle (unless you like your ladies that way) - I for one do not. Especially from my headlights. Has anyone else noticed the small amount of giggling that occurs with the headlights? I am hoping that is because of the "adjustable" feature of the headlights. And while I am on that subject...

4. Adjustable Headlight Angle - WTF? - is the suspension that soft that we need the ability to adjust the angle of our headlights base upon load of the car? Or is this the sublime way of the manufacturer saying the Western World is getting too fat?

5. Trim rings around the exaust. 'Nuff said.

In no way am I complaining. I really enjoy this car. Some things make me wonder though. I hope others will share any WTF moments they have had since ownership. We might have some interesting stories!!

#1 Yes, the engine heat sure does heat up the front fenders and hood. Sometimes it's almost to hot to even lift the hood using the lever to open the hood.

#2 Haven't even noticed this, but I am guess salt will take mine too.

#3 Annoying...yes. But I like the lights! Have you noticed if this is the same if you have the high beams on? Maybe it's just the HIDS?

#4 I'll never use that!

#5 Yes....pea shooters into the trim looks funny when you look into them. I wish they would have made them connected somehow.

By the way - do turbo cars (this being my first) always have what sounds like "high-ptched chatter" - especially when cold. I only notice this with my windows open.

#3 - only have noticed it with the lows - too much washout with the highs.

I don't know about chatter...I get the wistle which is good when getting into boost :)

hehe... awesome.

I didn't notice the heat on the fenders yet... but then again, my son did the first wash, and its been raining for the past week, so I haven't really "felt" her yet. lol

OMG... felt??? I gotta check that out after work.

The exhaust rings... try not to think about it.

Haven't notice the headlight thing, except when you first turn them on, there is a blue line on top. You can see this best when facing a wall.

My WTF things....

1. Clutch feel is different every time I get in the car. Sometimes firmer, sometimes not.

2. Gear shift from 1st to 2nd... still fumbling. Guess I still need to get used to the clutch

3. Sirus reception. Is it me, or does it take long to get a reception after changing channels? Also... display is always showing "Updating", or "searching", even when the channel is tuned.

4. At least on my car (titanium)... hood and area's on the side of the car kinda look either faded, or that is just the way the paint reflects light.

5. Brake dust!!!

Love my car though!

I'm guessing that the felt is there to help with the road noise. The 'speed6 seems to be quieter than the reg 6 from a road noise perspective. Let's hope it's stronger than the fabric store variety.

It can be also... with windows open and car is cold, you can really hear the stock BOV whistling.

I also did the HID mod. I took out the yellow metal strip inside the projector housing. I use a very long needle nose pilers. Someone here or mazda6club has instuctions. This is to reduce the glare when the xenons are on. Now I don't see the yellow line on the wall.

All mazda 6 have felt rear linning. IIRC the right wheel well had an imperfetction with it linning up on alot of cars. not shure if that was a signature or something that didn't pose a real issue.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it (unless someone posted since I loaded this thread like an hour ago) but the adjustable headlight angle is a safety thing. If there are 3 large people in your backseat and your trunk is full, your HIDs will be a danger to any oncoming vehicles. Hence adjustable angle. IIRC all cars with HIDs sold in europe are mandated to have this feature.

IIRC they were self leveling.

^^ the europe law? yeah that's what I thought too. I don't know why mazda didn't do self leveling, I figure it would be a simpler system (how hard is it to just hang ballasts of some sort off the projector housing since you already must have put it on pivots)

Most Audi's have felt liners. Basic reason is they are cheaper then plastic. I live in northern IL so we get snow and they salt the h... out of the roads and never seen one errode yet.

If they are self leveling there really wouldn't be a point to allow the driver to adjust beam height cause they put one sensor on different corners of the car to measure ride height. When you first turn them on and you see the beam moving more then likely the system is doing a self check to make sure they have the capablity to change angle.

oh ugh.. I figured the self-leveling would be a simple mechanical feature, not a computer-controlled electronic feature.

I figure felt would make a lot less noise when stuff hits it.. the plastic fender liners on my protege make stuff loud.

lol I noticed the fenders are very hot almost scorching and I noticed the headlights to man and the ring around the exhaust WTF

Had a big WTF with mine today, oil showing up around the innercooler...also got a check engine light going....I just hit 300 miles..wtf? Will see what the dealer says.

I can't remember what IIRC was. Other than that, I keepin' up with you guys!
