WTB Upgrade Downpipe for Factory Turbo

It is not advertised as coming with hardware or a gasket because the stock parts can be reused if they are in serviceable condition. I actually recommend reusing the stock hardware, especially the upper two nuts because the stock nuts have a much smaller outer diameter than anything from the aftermarket and they will go on (without grinding), while just about no others will. Some customers have had to or wanted to upgrade the hardware and have chosen to use a number of different solutions ranging from grinding on the casting to using spacers and socket cap screws - as shown on the site. Spacers and socket cap screws are cheap and can be bought from any hardware retailer. i.e. Fastenal, McMaster-Carr, Grainger, some Tractor Supply locations, most Do It Best Hardware stores, and many others. (Lowes and Home Depot are not hardwares stores and probably won't have what you want or if they do they will charge an arm and a leg.)

I've sold close to 50 of these now and have never had one contact the oil return fitting. The castings are all exactly the same (to within .001") so that means there is something else working against you in this department. I'm happy to help you diagnose the problem, its most likely simple, but voicing frustration on a forum without ever contacting the source doesn't solve problems. Its a very tight install with no clearance. Thats why you can't buy a Chinese DP on ebay for $89. Few companies have even tried a true 3" dp for our car and to my knowledge only MAM actually pulled it off, but it was such a headache that they only made 2-3 of them. Ion, GHL, and CS made some very nice parts, but had to make compromises in flow to get them to work. I tried to not compromise on flow and as a result some compromises have to be made elsewhere, like cutting the tab off the AC compressor mount, tight tolerances to the lower rad hose, and an install that can be pretty frustrating. Shoot me an email and I'll be happy to help you out. You will be a happy customer once its all said and done.

Here's a pm I got the other day - I think it says it all.

I finally got around to installing that 3" dp casting I purchased off you awhile back ago and my god that with a 3" catless pipe really wakes these cars up!

do u have to pull the turbo off to get the pipe on and does it rub anywhere?
IT LOOKS LIKE SOME SICK WORK BY THE WAY
Technically you don't have to pull the turbo off but most will find it a hell of a lot easier beings the most people don't have a lift

Yes you have to remove the turbo to install and it may or may not rub depending on your setup. I have steedspeed mani with stock turbo and I clear the water neck with about 1/4" room to spare

When I had my 3" DP and my 3" catless midpipe intalled the installer didnt have to touch a single bolt on the manifold... I think because he had a lift and all sorts of "special/modified" tools he was able to do it. Also note that I only had the pope casting so he built the rest.

Now with that all said the downpipe and midpipe completely changed the car! I would highly recommend this upgrade!!

Edit: LOL didn't noticed pope qouted my pm.

what kind of motor mounts do you have? pipe could still hit something depending on your mounts

Since the pipe is bolted to the motor it can't move with respect to the engine or anything else that is bolted to the engine. If the engine were to completely fall out of the car, the downpipe would still be in the exact same place relative to the AC compressor mount and oil return fitting.

M4N B4G - Glad to see that you got everything working. Its a very tight and sometimes frustrating install, but I think you'll be very happy with the results. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Will do. I said on my build thread but not on this one I was just trying to share my experiences with everyone. I wasn't saying it sucks or don't buy it. By the way I still have to go get the mid pipe welded up with the flex still, I think I'm going to test start it with it dumping at the DP :)

Oh and I have AWR front and rear motor mounts.
