With ECU Flash, Rx-8 gets Owned

I drive the Rx-8 at my work all the time and that thing is quick as hell. I know it could tke out my MSP.

i could agree that an auto might lose to a msp, but not the six speed in 2,000 light years

Light year is a measure of distance, not time. Why would this guy make up a story like this? Go back to the P5 forum and stay the **** out of this one you ******* troll. You are an idiot.

Yes and Gazor aka "Captain Cockgoolber" now has a properly represented icon....(gay)

SHHHH! It's don't ask don't tell! (evil)

Just kidding, man...but seriously...why do we all insist on calling BS on people here..especially established members? If you don't believe it, then say it in a manner that won't incite rage...instead you people raise the BS flag and run...at least explain your reasoning. Jeez...I lost in Auto-X to a Scirocco and beat an IS 300 yesterday...sounds like BS, right? It's true, and there's one member that can back me up. But I bet someone would still call BS on this! SHEESH!

hmmm i dunno man your boosting 12..... im boosting 8 and getting fuel cut like a mofo......
Well I was boosting 12 PSI for months on end. I am at 10 PSI now after the flash and I have yet to get boost cut.
It depends on air density so temperature relative to climate zone would be a big factor in this.
Joe P was not getting cut down in Florida but I believe he did experience it when He moved up to New Yok and then out of his treacherous mind came forth the Little Joey P Boost Cut Defender.

Ok, this thread has gotten rediculous. I initially saw this a few days ago, and edited the title so that it may stay in the Mazdaspeed section, but now it has to be moved. I for one totally believe Discreet Speed if it was an automatic. At 12 PSI, the torque is a killer, and it's low down. After riding around in JDM Sam's car the other night, at stock boost levels, I was very surprised about how soon the torque came on when just cruising. I have rode in a RX-8, and I for one know it is not that fast (automatic). I have also seen the picture of the next gen RX-7 with the specs. It should have around 300 HP boosted I belive. That car will be the speed that the RX-8 lacks.

I would believe this story , mazda speed with 12 psi would destroy the rx-8 they were racing from a roll. There is absolutely no down low power with the rx-8. It's like the s2000. The street start on a Rx-8 is something like 7 seconds to 60 , the mazdaspeed would kill it . From a dead stop that might be a different story, even thoe it has no tq either.

the rx-8 had a manual transmission,
you have a point man that is why i said lets do it from a roll, besides i did not want to snap anything on the lauch from a stop.
if there are still doubts read that site i posted. if need be i will get pics of the rx-8 that night, it was a local meet so there posted on that site.
im going to go at it again with him next fri, so one more round for him.

the rx8 is no dragracer my FC will take it in a straight line, just wait for the turbo kit's to come out for the rx8.

Damn, what a bunch of ball-breakers. It's NOT unreasonable for a Stock speed to stay with a RX-8, let alone a tweaked one. Here's what Car and Driver said about the RX-8

"With the help of an 8000-rpm clutch drop and the engine buzzing like a flock of angry hornets, the RX-8 scooted to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 96 mph. But that performance falls off considerably without a tire-frying launch. In our street-start test from 5 to 60 mph, the RX-8 needed 7.5 seconds1.6 seconds longer than the hard-launch time, which is twice the deficit we found with either of the other cars."

Now C&D also ran a Mazdaspeed to a 15.4 at 90 MPH.

Take a car that runs a 14.5, do a slow roll on without winding that little rotary up to 8000, vs a car that benefits from the roll on, and what do you get? Owned! How many people will launch their RX-8's at 8000 RPM's, NONE. With the extra boost, an even better ass whooping.

thats why i said take it to the track.

I eat Z3-- I drop the clutch at 7000-7500 at the strip, Real men race from a stop.

After having test driven an RX-8 6spd, I was not all that impressed with the low end. Also, like C&D says, you gotta shift high end 8-9 (redline at 9). I believe the MSP could beat it (though I haven't driven an MSP). With only the test drive experience, also, the clutch is rather intolerant. It would take someone with a bit of experience to get some good throws on high acceleration.

That being said, it's a beauty of a car, and it feels real nice to ride. Also, it does pull almost equally throughout the power band, which is nice. I am hoping they will make a hopped up version some time in the future.
