CX-5 Winter tires on stock 17 inch Miata wheels?

Just got a new CX-5 AWD GT and am considering getting a set of winter tires instead of running the stock 19" wheels and tires in all the mud, salt, etc. .........

Anyway, I put a set of wider Enkei PF01 wheels on my 06 MX-5 Miata so I've got a set of the stock 17x7 Miata alum. wheels. I know the Miata wheels are a bit lighter than the stock 17" CX-5 wheels and there is a slight difference in offset (55mm vs. 50MM, I believe) but bolt circle and width are the same. Does anyone know if the hub center bore is the same for both?

If I can use the Miata wheels, I'd go with 225/65 winter tires on them. Already understand about the TPMS (wheel rev counting/comparison) system used on the CX-5, so that shouldn't be an issue. Assuming everything else matches up, any reasons I shouldn't pursue this approach??

Thanks!

Since the CX-5 isn't that heavy a vehicle, it shouldn't be a problem.. My concern is for the rims to take the weight of the car.

As for the center bore, I think Mazda is pretty standard on their cars so shouldn't be an issue! Perhaps a quick check with your local Mazda dealer would clarify that :)

since you have the wheels already, just jack the car up and test fit.

Its possible they're the same. If anything the miata's may be smaller which would be no good. iirc, the miata is 67.1?

I agree with njaremka. just lift it up and test fit it.

Thanks for the responses..........just thought someone might have tried this already, as I saw reference in another thread to possibly using the MX-5 17" wheels to lighten rotating mass. I'll probably just jacker 'er up and test fit. My local dealer has a 4 for price of 3 sale this week on Blizzaks.

Well, I jacked up the GT and tried one of the stock 17" MX-5 Miata wheels on it...........

Perfect fit!! Same center bore & recess as the stock CX-5. Even the wheel nuts are identical. I was pretty sure it would be a fit but needed to confirm. The 17" MX-5 wheels even look very similar to the stock 17" CX-5 wheels - just a bit thinner width spokes. Now I can take advantage of the sale - 4 new Blizzaks on nice looking wheels for $561 complete, including lifetime rotation, which dealer says means free install and takeoffs each year. Works for me !!!

Sorry RDZSTER, I just did this myself last tuesday but did not read your post until just now. (2006 Copper Red MX-5 GT) It works well. The clearance between the front calipers and the back of the wheel spokes is only 1/8 inch. That's OK but will get your attention. The rear clearance is much greater. A great way to save a few dollars.
Cheers

Thanks OneOWonder.

I know it's tight clearance on front but I ran winter snows on an Accord using non-current OEM wheels that were similarly close with no problems.

I really like the stock 19" wheels but these Miata wheels won't look too bad this winter! Also, I like a taller tire section for winter use/potholes, etc.
