Window tint suggestions

Well, after a 5,000 mile trip across the country, my wife finally agrees that window tinting is a good idea.

I've found several shops around town that can put it in for me, but I wanted some suggestions from you all before I chose on a tint level. I don't want limo glass, and I don't want the glass to just look dirty, and not really tinted.

I've seen some of your sigs with a percentage tint listed. Is that how I would choose mine from the retailer that would install them, by a percentage? And if so... what percentage would look best on a red P5?

Seriously.....tint them the darkest that the law allows in your state. you won't be sorry.

I have no problem with what the law allows. At least not in a governmental agency sort of sense. It all comes down to what the wife allows. He he he...

I'm not sure what you'll be happy with, but I'm shooting for 30 or 35% all the way around. It's not too dark and still allows the law dogs (police) to see in at night. After asking a few police officers how dark is too dark, they all say that as long as they can see a silhouette of someone, they'll usually let it go.

if you dont wana get caught, just dont tint the front two

or like nuke says, tint the darkest whatever ur states allows you

like me, i had my MP5 tint silver, and going to tint black for the front, but not very dark for the front

then do what I did when I was going to get my wifes car done...take her or have her go to the tint shop. as luck would have it the place I went had the OWNERS car there and it was done just that way...to the legal limit....I had my WIFE approve the tint...or tell me what SHE wanted....that way she couldn't complain one way or the other....she loves her tint. :{D

whatever you do, don't get reflective blue 20% tint...asshole cops made me tear mine off. sux!

I went with 35% on driver and passenger windows and 15% on the rear windows and a 7" band across the top of the windshiled. I've been pulled over twice, once in NY and once in Mass and neither cop ever said anything about the tint and in NY the legal level is only 50% (I don;t know what it is in Mass).

Suggest you check your state laws. Shops will sell you illegal tint if you ask them to since they won't need to remove if cited.

Arizona allows 35% in the front windows, all the way to "paint them black" in the back. It's always best for looks to do them all the same. A lot of people around here use limo (5% to 20%) in the backs just to save the car from the brutal summer sun. There are some great thermal-reflector materials (not "reflective" like mirror tint) that minimize heat transferrence without having to go too dark. The best bet is to buy them from a specialist that's been around for a long time and that offers a lifetime warrantee. It's worth the little extra money.

I have a question about legal stuf... If I had my windows tinted where I live now, in NJ (im not sure what the legal limits are, this is just for arguments' sake...) but then go to my college in NY where, lets pretend, the state has stricter laws about window tint than NJ.

If what I legally put on in NJ is not legal in NY, could they make me take it off? or since my car is registered in NJ would it be okay?

also...when looking for a good tint shop, are there any important things to look out for or stay away from?

about how much did you guys spend on your window tints for all the side, and rear windows?

I got a medium tint all the way around and have no trouble with the cops - my brother is one! Here's a pic... you can see a silhouette during bright days but at night it's practically black inside! I don't know the exact percentage because I just told the guy "medium" vs. "light" or "dark." I called and left a message with him to get the actual numbers. I'll post them when he calls me back today!

my tint is about like adragonflys, but I agree with SirNuke, go as dark as you can legally. It will always be better in the long run. As for blackout in AZ, I wouldn't go THAT far.
Mine is pretty dark, and at night I sometimes have to roll down the window to take twisty roads I don't know that well, but it's nice during the day.
I didn't have to do mine, the dealer did it before putting it on the showroom floor, so I can't get any info on the %.

As long as you are still a legal resident of NJ, maintain your car registered there, your drivers licence there...the whole nine yards....YOU and your ride are fine in ANY other state....you are just visiting.....

just as an example...in Texas we are, like most other states, required to have a safety inspection every year.....I was in the service.....out of state....maintained my registration and licence in TEXAS.....didn't get a saftey inspection on the car for 5 years.....NOW>.....the first time I set foot back in texas I got one....for once I was "home" there was no excuse. BUT, as long as I was in another state.....it didn't matter. they had no jurisdiction, since the car and my legal residence was in another state.

I want to put in a disclaimer here....this post should not be construed in any way as legal advise or a 100% statement of actual fact......however, from my experiences and from the information I have seen and read.....all of the above is true.

I am sure if you wanted to you could contact the NY Department of Public Safety, or what ever they call it there...and they could give you the "hot poop" or try calling New Jersey's. THEY would probably be more likely to be straight with you since you are a resident there than another states agency may be.

I just got the call back... It was 32%. Hope that helps! It's just dark enough to protect my interior, keep the sun from blinding me, and give me a bit of privacy, but not so dark that I have trouble seeing through it myself.

My back windows are Limo and at night it can be tough to see out, my front two are 20% and sometimes they can be tough to see out of. Remember there is a thin line between what looks good and what is functional.
