My girlfriend is in need for some winter tires after last winter in her 07 3 was not too good. I found a set of used Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 mounted on 17" Kazera wheels. Thy has them for his RX8 so I know the rims will work but they are a little large...thoughts? The tires are 225/50QR-17 and rims are 17x7. he said that they have been used for two seasons 4-5k miles. The tread looks good. He is selling them for $555 decent deal or can I get a better deal?

I would be hesitant to put such a wide tire for winter.
Also her speedometer will be off because the tire will be taller as well.
She will be travelling faster than what the speedometer indicates and she will also travel farther than what the odometer indicates.

the car currently has 205/50/17...thought that a 225 is a little wide for winter...from what I remember you want a narrower tire in winter to cut through the snow better rather than floating correct?

so it sounds like I should pass and keep looking...

I got good deal on tire rack. Mounted & balanced for free and saved 350 bucks .... just a suggestion and they should give you wheel & tire packages that'll work for your vehicle ... mine turned out great. Just don't wait till its below freezing to put 'em on like me.

Yes that's right. I think she'll have trouble in the winter on those tires.
You can also go 16" and it'll be cheaper.

ok so i found a set of 215/60/R16 off a 01 mustang rim bolt pattern 5x4.5 (5x114.3). these end up being only .1 inch off in radius. He wants $400
These should work fine correct?
not sure about the rim offset or any thing like that....they are steel wheels.

Also found some Honda Prelude rims with 205/60-16 Blizzak tires. He wants $450
the Bolt pattern is 5x4.5 but not sure if these rims will work.

Also found A set of 4, 5 Spoke Mazda wheels for only $200....if only i could find a set of winter tires for these this would work great! guess i could try and talk him down $50 but then i need a 17" tire.

It would be nice to have the 17" 5 spoke OEM rims and put 205-50-17's on them because of you'll know they'll fit for sure. You'll have to pay extra for the 17" winters though.

I don't know anything about the Mustang steel rims but the 215-60-16 is again wider and much taller than the stock size.

The prelude rims might work but they are also taller. Not sure if you'll have fitment issues with the hub size.

i suggest looking for oem mazda3i wheels or protege/p5 rims and then trying to find some used or new snow tires and mounting them on those that way you know they will fit and the tires will be the correct size and as every one said skinnier is better...

Bad choice.
1. Do not assured bolt pattern the same.(Original mazda3 114.3x5 central hole-67.1 offset 52,5 (mm))
2. If in MSP the same, wheel could to jut out of arc and to drop dirt and gravel on body.
3. Even in summer when going in puddle at speed on 205mm tires it hard to hold steering wheel(even for men).
4. Bridgestone is not best winter tires to try to set theese monsters at any price.
If you interesting by health of your girl and her car, try something another.
For my M3 I bought 15x 6j steel disks and Hankook I-Pike 195mm tires(also not best, but normal).
Absolutely new it cost to me about 700 in US$.
Probably for MSP you need something more prestigious but not 225mm.

thanks for all the replies....SAS, These tires are for a mazda 3 not a msp. Ibe had a set of blizzacks for 3 seasons and they still have atleast another 2 seasons on them..Ive had nothing to fuss about with them so im confident in the blizzacks for her also.

I'd rather buy a set of slightly used rims and tires than new ones. Since my GF went through a crazy winter last year on the stock tires im sure any snow tire will be a major improvement.

On a side note i found another set that i think will work great.

A set of 4 16" MSW Type 15 wheels wrapped in 205/55/16 Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1's. Only used 1500 Miles. Rims are 16x6.5, 5x114.3 bolt pattern, and a +45 Offset. These should be just fine correct?

They are a little less than the 52.5 stock offset but at only 6.5 wide they should be just fine.

Ill stop asking questions soon...I know I should get a mazda wheel but its not that easy....I've been looking for months on my local CL. What good is a forum without questions that need answers?

Tsunami, Thanks for the reply....that's what i figured but they are the same as the stock width. Seems like 195's are hard to find, unless you buy new obvously.
