WRCprotege,
What rims are thoughs? I thought tires that wide would not work on stock 16" rims? Also what springs do you have on your car?

Magus

stock 03 wheels, they fit, hard to get on but they fit..and Skunk2 coilovers, the rear is 3-1/5 4 inches lower and the front 2 1/5 or so..and the tires work fine, the edges are a little rounded but thers massive grip and a smooth breakway when they let go.. i like my clean ,stock look, and the factorys wheels look good and arent that heavy at 17lbs, so i fit all the rubber i can on it and go drivin!!

WRCprotege,
I looked at the Skunk2 coilovers at protegegarage and wondered if they come with struts? If not, are you using the stock ones? Also how is the ride quality?

Magus

yes, stock struts.. 50k miles and i blew a rear one, but as you can see the car is slammed, the ride is ok.. it really depends on the roads, if ther smooth or no dips and bumps, like a hwy, than its good, just in a few places here in town the roads are lumpy and that can bounce you around a little.. though every car iv ever own since i was 16 has had springs on it, so 14 years of this does have me used to the bounce and ride.
here a small crap video (has to fit on the site) of some of the fast parts of deals gap.. as you can see, with roads like that the skunk2s are great, and you can what 215-45-16 azenis can do for grip (note the damp/wet patches)- does matter that much the azenis grip like OMG in the wet..

So this bounciness that comes from using the coilover's, do you think that's because of the stock struts? I figure the point of the struts is to prevent the bounce. I heard a good test is if you push down on one corner it should bounce up and then go back to rest. If it continues to bounce you need to replace the strut/shock. I am sure with the width of tire and the lower center of gravity it would grip like all get out. I am curious on how they look and work with our stock struts, do you have any pics of the wheel off show this off? I wish Protege gararge had better pics with there products.

ya struts will take out the bounce, and the ride is stiffer, not to noticeable if bumps etc small one inch, its fine.. big stuff that the sus has to compress 3 inches of so is not good, mosty because my car sits low and ther no more sus travail before bump stops.. dont slam the car and get shocks, you be fine...and if you do get them thers a plastic bushing that goes in the front strut assembly. this keeps them from poping when you turn.. other than that no problems.. on the car 3 years now, my first mod...just pm me if you like.. mabey i can get all the info you need on this

that looks like a fun road to drive on :D theres one here but its covered in pot holes and gravel :(

WRCprotege,
Thanks man for the review. What I really want to do strut wise is Tokico illuminas because they are adjustable (sort of the reason I am looking at these coil overs). I like adjustablity of soft for everyday and super hard for AutoX, but do not want to spend $1500-$2000! Since I have 106K miles, I figure I will need to replace the struts first. At $549 that's alot, but I figure for a couple hundred more, it's better than getting Tokico Blues. Then later I figure I will pickup the coilovers. I already have the AWR endlinks, Progress Rear Sway bar, and rear strut bar. It really handles well. I figure the only thing holding the car back is two things. I need more power to power out of the corners, and I need to lower the center of gravity.

WRCprotege you set my mind....ive ordered some 215/45ZR16 Dunlop Direzza DZ101 to put on my stock rims ... so....next friday they're on so I will tell you if you're right!(wedge)

Damn it looks like heaven on your car so it will on mine! (drinks)

I have 205/50 on my P5 now.
Love the comfort and reduced noise level.
Hated the ride height and degraded handling.

Definitely going back to stock size next time.

Nice! You lowered your car, right?

Nevermind, I read your 2nd post.:p

tire diameter are:

195/50R16: 23.67 inches (stock tire)
205/45R16: 23.26 in ...too low
205/50R16: 24.07 in ...tow high
215/45R16: 23.61 in .....perfect fit? will see next friday!

magus, im in the same boat, with cost.. i want adj struts as well, but ther $$$$, i did get my coilovers from e-bay for $240 shipped to my door, and thats was three years ago.. sturts and coilovers for under $900 is very possible.. for auto-x, do a midpipe next, be sure that it is 2.5"-2" and then finish it out with the exhaust, my mid pipe help mid TQ alot, and exhaust seemed more upper end.. MP3 ecu for upper end power and a little more mid TQ.. and tires, like the azenis..ther the greatest thing since R compound street tires, only they cost much less.. i get mine from www.discounttiredirect.com for like $110 apeice and then, superwalmart is like $45 to mount and balance all four...and even just getting coilovers or springs make a BIG differance in balance, control and just the amount of grip the car has, even with what you have..i have winter wheels and summer wheels.. but some 215 sticky azenis will make you learn to corner all over again.. in the video the car is poised and im not pushing to hard, as i have 300 or so much sharper corners to go and keeping tire temps good, finding that pace in which you can run it all at once, ther is a buddy of mine holding the laptop,(webcam movie) and it was like 98 deg out as well.. most people cant believe the car does what it does.. most of witch is the tires.. then the sus set up and car balance.. OOOOh and then try stopping with them tires..as you can see in the video, like 70 to 25 in nothing flat.. gas milage hurts a little more with wider tires but on road trips like going to the GAP ill run them up to 55-60psi and its all good, just not as soft of a ride..
