Wife's new car

Nice buy! Awesome color. Can never go wrong with a quality metallic gray. ;)

I LOLed when you said that you have to clean up the wife's mess in the car. My relationship is backwards -- I can't STAND having anything more than my CD case and a hoodie sweatshirt in my car, whereas my boyfriend will throw endless amounts of s*** in his back seat and trunk. Makes me crazy.

.. Is the 'A' missing out of the 'JETTA' badging?

Yes, the "A" is on order. ;) I'm the same way with my car, always clean inside and out.

Would you believe it has 53K miles. You would never know looking at it and driving it.

where's the engine? :p

Shhhh...it's a secret. No mods going in the engine bay. She may add 18s later down the road. Possibly suspension as well. But really that's it.

I actually like how clean and nicely designed the engine covers are. Yah its annoying to take them off when you have to work but when you find out what they are hiding then you will be happy that they are there.

going to pick up robin's new car right now...i'llpost upspme pics later today...lot's of room in the engine bay for that super charger.....? ;)

man, i feel jealous on how clean this is.........would not want to take a pic of mine and it is not even 10 months old!!!!!

Previous owner must have garaged it and took excellent care. Female driver and some sort of executive of a company in NY, hence the reason for so many miles. All highway driven, but when you look at it, especially the front, you would think it was brand new.

Awesome Mark!

Did you pick up the car Mark? I just read about the new EPA changes in the Cars for Clunkers program. Damn that sucks for a lot of people.

yes we did...it's really nice...after 11+ yrs in the explorer it was nnice to have a new ride! robin loves it...it actually handles really well for a small suv...pretty quite...once it get's into 6th you don;t hear any engine noise at all...i'll post pics tonight....so what changes to the cash for clunkers program you referring to?(scratch)

Honestly we had no real plans to buy a VW. We drove all around looking and test driving different cars, even Scions. Went to look a 2006 Mazda 3, but the dealer sold it. Then we looked at a Mazda 6 and that was a beater car. Also bad salesman there.

We went to Tracy VW & Audi, first drove a 2005 GTI and thought it was ok but a bit on the "rough" side. Then I suggested we drive the Jetta. More room and was in perfect condition. She fell in love. The salesman was great, not pushy at all.

Nice Josh....looking at those pics I'd say the car was new...minus that missing 'A'. lol

I wish you the best of luck....my previous experience with VW was very sour and I have vowed to never buy another....

what did you have and what were your problems?

We had a '96 Jetta Trek 2.slow with AT. We took it to the dealer where we bought it new (about 5 miles from where we live) on three separate occasions to have them inspect the tranny. First two times the tech couldn't duplicate the hesitant shifting patterns. We literally had to floor it around town to get the AT to shift into 2nd (if we didn't, it would rev like mad). Third time we were told by the service manager 'that is how Germans make their cars, nothing wrong'.

At 70k the car became unpredictable and unsafe for my wife to drive with the kids. So we took it to our family mechanic (whom my wifes parent's know personally). He called me the next day and says "You need a new transmission and since you still have a factory warranty, take it back to Young." He didn't even charge us a penny. That same day I drove it to Young and the service manager tells me it will be at least 3 weeks before he can look at it as he has other scheduled appts (oil changes, tire rotations etc). So I pull my keys and call VW NA, explain my story to the guy on the other end of the phone and he gives me 5 dealerships within a 60 mile radius and tells me to call them to see if they can accomodate me sooner. So much for customer service. I will also add that the dealer that wanted me to wait almost a month was the region's top dealer for service. At least that is what all the gold plaques on the wall said...I honestly feel that VW just hands them out.

So I drove to a dealer in Allentown who got the car fixed within a week (while we were on vacation, so no need for a rental). We get back from vacation and a week later traded it in for a Saturn Vue.

Since then I have vowed to never own another.

Sorry to hear. Don't let the old VW stigma veer you away. Did you know they now use Japanese electronics? ;) Also, our car has 53K miles, every service done at the same dealer I bought it from and comes with a full 2 year warranty. I also know them very well from years of living on Cape.

Was not aware of the Japanese electronics...haha So much for those electrical gremlins, eh?

Honestly I did love the car and would still consider a VW if it weren't for the way that I was treated by the dealer with the "certified" service dept and by NA. Considering all of the plaques on the wall of this service dept I expected more from NA at least to pressure them to get the car looked at sooner than three weeks...maybe I was asking too much?

The day I took the car in this is what the service manager said to me "It will be at least three weeks before I can even look at the car. I have customers who have scheduled service appts and you can't expect me to bump them for someone coming in with no appt." WTH was I thinking not calling them a month ahead of time to tell them I needed warranty work on a failing transmission????

Sorry for the threadjack Josh...now back on to admiring that new er I mean certified loved car.
