I go on what I'm told. If people aren't honest with me I can't help it. Sadly that forum has a small "message box" or I would've had all of our messages saved where he told me the whole tale. His car is a NOPI show winner though as I'm sure some of you have seen it...maybe he had info about it at the show.

Man, I am lucky that I can just get on line. I do not know all of these things like you guys. Thats why my website is 6 years old.
Aww geez man - you know how to make the low blows!

I was supposed to show up at the last dyno meet - I couldn't get paid time off because it was on the weekend - and I'm a consultant - I don't get OT or vacation or anything, but the hourly wage is inflated to compensate.

I was also supposed to work on MPI's website - but I hate hate hate html, java, flash, etc.

On the plus side Nick - I'll more than likely end up buying that Merkur - keep my ES stock and have a daily driver I can trust. I think adding the second car and putting it down as my primary driver will actually lower my insurance costs as well.

NICK OR MICAH WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO POST THE INFO THAT THE GUY SENT(THE ONE MATTY CLAIMED HAD 500WHP)

THANKS,
mATT
ok, you could just follow the link to see this, but here you go:
"Umm 500whp, nope. We spun a bearing on the dyno so no good numbers yet. I suspect somewhere in the 375-400whp range at 22psi. We are still using the oem fuel system with upgraded pump and injectors. You cant go too high on the boost with this block because of the lateral cracking of the casting."

"

I will get you the pics. It was not 500hp it was 35+psi of boost that caused the block to crack all the way around. Our first one broke a rod at 14psi and punched 6 holes in the block. We now run wiseco pistons on pauter rods. I figure the head would have lifted before the block cracked. LUckily it was someone elses block that cracked."

and here's the PM:
(I asked what he could tell me?)
"Sure, what would you like to know? It has wiseco pistons on pauter rods, 660cc inj, t3/t4 hybrid turbo system, and aem ems."

ok 35 psi of boost that I can see splitting our block :) LOL. I'd think plenty of other problems will come up before then though.

Thanks Micah...so They Were Running 35 Psi...danm Thats Alot...hope My Motor Holds Up..i Guess We'll Find Out In A Month Or 2

Such as the driveshafts, the clutch, the engine mounts, and damn near everything else remotely related to torque.

s***, I'd almost expect the car to literally start rolling over end over end.

Still though - 500WHP in a protege - goddamn - what a rush that would be... a rush to the tire store and between gas stations.

depends on his compression.... I'm at 8:1 for a reason.
EVEN IF HE HAD 8:1 CR HE WOULD NEED TO HAVE AN ENGINE GURTLE MADE OUT AIRFORCE GRADE ALUMINUM TO HOLD THE BLOCK TOGETHER AT THOSE BOOST LEAVELS,

Beau is making Billet main caps.... though I wont have them. however my engine is well prepped (basically everything Beau is doing to his preped blocks)

infact Beau has my crank and 2nd main cap right now for work.

and again, I'm not planning on getting 35 psi from a GT3071.... thats insane. atleast till I can get a real solution for the tranny

Ryan You Ever Think Of Getting The Quiafe Lsd And Cryo Treating The Whole Tranny 9this Is What Im Doing)...or Whatdoes Beau Have Planned For The Tranny Beside New Shift Forks?
Thanks Matt

I do not see the caps as the problem here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Cryo doesn't do jack for strength. It does seem to have anecdotal evidence toward wear and distortion, but NOT for strength. So cryoing a tranny will do nothing. And we have NO proof among anybody on this car for sure of it being worthwhile. I also talked it over with an older professor who is a recognized leader in materials science in the nation and he said that there is no proof of it doing anything, and that it's kind of like holistic medicine for your car, people say it works and have stories of it working, but no one can prove that it does.

I'm still working on the gears. I'll be able to provide them no matter what, it's just a matter of whether or not anyone will be able to stomach the pricetag.

I never said it was all that was being done... but Beau thinks they'll be a problem at some point... but he is going overboard in other ways so he is covering all bases.

as for cryoing the tranny I dont think its the best path.

for the tranny the billet shift forks Beau is making will go a VERY long way in making our trannys hold up. and there are the EMCO gears and whatever Turf is trying to get worked out.. both are better than cryo'd gears.

cryo or heat treating metal is an attempt to line up the grains of the metal, which works quite well.. but forging is hammering the metal into have closer, tighter grains... this makes it much stronger. then add shot peening to them, this compacts the outer layer of metal (kinda like forging the outer layer) as well as removing any imperfections where cracks can start.

if you do these two things internally to the tranny, add an LSD, either a welded 1 series MSP, or a quaife (better choice, but more expensive) and then get better axles and I dont think any power you can make in a protege can break it.
