i don't buy the "but when peoople post street racing stories, others criticize them" argument, b/c it's not true. there might be a couple of people who chime in, but for the most part they're shouted down by others crying "what, you've never speeded before?!!?? what's the difference?!/1?!"
in any case, the overall message of that forum certainly is NOT "mazda forums do not approve of street racing." the fact that it is maintained and provided at all shows a tacit acceptance of the activity.
if no one wants a "sex w/ little boys" forum, how about a "vandalizing cars for fun" forum? or a "joyriding" forum? car-related enough?
i think perhaps some folks are nervous about being accused of hypocrisy, b/c a lot of people have at one time participated in a race on public roads, no matter how minor. but that's flawed logic unless the person still does it. when i was young and immature, i used to race people "only when i thought it was 'safe!!!'." once i grew up, i realized it's never truly "safe," and stopped doing it. and i don't feel the least bit bad about telling others they're stupid and immature for doing it, b/c that's reality.
the fact that this site provides a place to brag about it (legal protection diisclaimers notwithstanding) tells me (and others) that it's an accepted activity by an otherwise reputable board.
The real questions to be answered are, "What is the image we want to portray? How responsible and mature of a community are we going to be?"
The answers to those should direct the answers to all the smaller questions, such as this one.
