No matter If having a Street racing thread or removing it, Accomplishes anything, because it won't!!!! Either you street race or you don't. "By having a thread of street racing, doesn't make a person oblige a street race with one or another!! That's like me saying just b/c i have Protection at home doesn't make me a mass murder, i know or u know the consequences u r getting into if u use it. So why do it or take that risk,!!!! That's also like me saying me and my girl are going ta get it on, and ima go in her, knowing i don't have a condom" what would u think" the consequences r, after the fact we didn't use any condoms!!!! it's irrelevant, same as this THREAD!!!!!!

great thread. this topic came up about two years ago when the kid who bought funnylittleman's car died while street racing in it. there was a heated debate when some forum members wanted to send the family a gift/card in support.

quite hypocritical of the forum to play both ends. having a section devoted to street racing does endorse it and encourage it. I voted to ban it, keep it on the track. just ask any family member who lost a family member to such reckless nonsense and see what they say.

I would also ask all the guys who are voting "no" (DeadGeneration, dominoy2k1, FSDET, Hellnightkid, jordanserre, MP3Architect, Protege2K, quatelate, Subghetto, vcinsanity1523) to post something on here explaining why.

Street racing is retarded, and having a section on here just endorses it. Get rid of it, and if people post street racing stories in the track section, delete the threads.

Think about this; There's a 16 year old kid, he just got his first car and he's thinking about racing it on the streets. So he comes onto MSProtege.com, a forum with a lot of knowlegable people who have a lot of experience with all forms of racing, to see what they think about street racing. Now if he logged on and found that there is an entire section devoted just to street racing, don't you think that might put the message into his head that it's okay?

agreed

maybe the parents of the kid should have a talk about it before handing him the keys

maybe the kid should also be told about the dangers of the internet at the same time if he is that impressionable by forum topics

IMO, attempting to ignore the problem and pretend it doesn't exist is much worse than what is done here. A lot of times when someone posts about a high-speed street race, someone else chimes in and mentions the dangers. If we remove the section and delete all street racing posts, then those warnings will never be seen by these young and impressionable youths.

It is better to have things out in the open than to brush them under the carpet.

Nobody is going to make the decision to street race solely because of a thread they see here, or because this forum has a section for street racing.

Just for the heck of it, I could even go as far to argue that not having the forum is more of an enticement. Kids are told over and over that certain things are bad or wrong. 'You can't have sex. It's wrong'. 'You can't do drugs. They'll mess up your life.' 'You can't street race. It's dangerous.' And what do kids do? Have sex, do drugs, and race on the streets. Hopefully not all at once.

I see your point, and I agree that it would be useful to have the descenting opinions that are presented in some of those threads around, but I think it's potential for doing harm and glorifying the street racing culture is greater than it's possible hlepfulness.

I know I have different opinions about this stuff than most people, but that's what happens when you 1) Get arrested for it 2) Have your uncle critically injured and damn nearly killed by it 3) Have lost friends who were guilty of nothing more than trying to have "fun".

deleting the street racing section will not stop people from posting about it. I have never seen this forum endorse street racing. Also not everyone lives near a track, but that dosent make street racing ok.

My vote is for 'No'. Keep the forum there.

Yes, street racing is dangerous. Yes, I wish everybody 'took it to the track'. But we all know that will never happen.

This forum is not a parental unit. Having the section only serves to keep the forum more organized -- otherwise the actual TRACK racing section would be filled with street racing stories.

IMO, if you don't want to hear about it, then don't visit that forum.

That said, I will link this thread in the staff forum for further discussion.

on the other hand, we also get threads that say, "glad to see you guys support street racing. the people on [insert other board here] <insert other="" site="" here=""> don't even have a street racing forum." the fact that the forum exists at all signals that it's OK here. the fact that i've seen those posts means that our "non-endorsement" isn't exaclty crystal clear.

so it's not a matter of "people will still do it." it has to do with what kind of activity this board endorses. all the disclaimers in the world notwithstanding, having a street racing forum signals that we endorse (or at least don't condemn) it.

the "track" section doesn't have to be filled w/ those stories if members don't tolerate it. the reason other boards w/ no street racing forums
are able to keep things organized is b/c their members don't put up with immature crap.

not only do i not like to read about it, i don't like to deal with it on the road. in that way it's much different than "don't like it? don't read about it." of course people aren't going to stop doing it if msprotege.com discontinues its tacit endorsement of it, but maybe one will.

or maybe it's the right mesage to send, regardless of how ineffective that gesture will likely be. it's like a 7-11 clerk saying, "well, teenagers are still going to smoke, so why shouldn't i sell cigarettes to 14-year-olds, even if i won't get caught?"</insert>

I also See your point, "but you know what everybody has had the same situation or been there"!!!! Like i said when, you r getting into something u know what will happen "why take that risk"=(BIG EGO SHOW OFF). I know street racing is dangerous, but atleast if someone is going to do it. Do it where ur not endangering anyone else or others!!!!

seriously...punctuation. spelling. those two tings help get your message across so much more effectively. look into it.

i vote that we have a "sex with little boys" forum. i mean, the board doesn't endorse it, and it's illegal, but people are going to do it anyway, so why not have a forum about it? if you don't like it, just don't go in there.

using the same reasoning people use for keeping the racing section there'd be that section. nicely done!
