Why Is It Losing Power?!!!!!!

hey guys, im a newbie to this account and don't know s*** about cars. well, im learning. I own a 2002 P5 got about 41k a/t. i am just wondering how can i restore power? the got low a slower pedal response and the engine is lounder and lounder (i do all my regular oil change and stuff)

also, how often should i change oil for the transmission?

Thanks for ya help.

Auto or manual? So change your plugs though, that might help. Also, if its getting louder as time goes on, you might be developing an exhaust leak. Take it to a shop and just get it looked at. I know Firestone does stuff like that for free.

Thank you. What brand of plugs is good? Mine is a auto. Damn shoulda have got the manual in the first place. Thanks . (doh)

I dont know what brand. Most people would say NGK, but I don't waste my money. It's been my experience that a $1 champion plug is as good as a $10 whatever. But some people have varying opinions on that, and I dont know everything about proteges, so you might wanna ask around first.

I'd recommend the REGULAR NGK or Denso (Not the platinum/iridium stuff). Cheap and are actually what they use from factory.

At 41k it might not hurt to take it in and get it turned up. I believe there's a 35k maintenance program that the previous owner might not have gotten around to. Worth a shot. Also perhaps flushing out the tranny fluid will help? Oh, and check the air filter.

ahh ok I was under the impression you just got it. Many peoople post up here after buying a car used and not knowing anything about it.

Slower response usually has to deal with air intake. As for louder, that's usually exhaust.

Regular copper plugs are fine in our cars, it's not like they are highly tuned machines so you don't need the high end plugs. I have the NGK Iridiums in mine and there is no difference. Better to save youself the extra money and just get regular plugs.
