Wht to do.....

You said that these cars are not reliable, I would have to disagree with you. My car has the same 129,000 miles as yours, I have had mine for 5 years now and just now running into this big of a problem, as you can see in my idle thread. I had almost 5 years trouble free with this car, so it was to be expected sooner or later. I do like the car and understand that all cars have issues, and trust me I have been trying to figure mine out for a bit now. I do not think that just giving up and selling it is the answer, you probably won't get what you paid for it running this way. Listen to these guys and they will help you along to try and fix the car. It really can be an enjoyable car.

And do check your intake, especially between the MAF and the throttle body, mine cracked big time there and caused the issue initially.

brett02...thanks for the advice, I really do like the car....its fun to drive.
I went and cleared the code this morning, this time it was just PO300.
if the light flashes even once the PO421 is involved. its off at the moment
wife is driving it...no phone calls yet!
I came here looking for advice and have gotten alot of help...except one smartass
comment, that sent me into orbit.
I only paid $4500 for the car and its pretty much in excellent condition. 1 owner car.
we'll see what happens!

I know this is frustrating for you, but I advise you as others have not to sell the car over it. If you have eliminated your ignition system as the problem, other possibilities are a bad fuel pressure regulator, vacuum leaks, or even something as simple as a bad PCV valve.

I would highly advise that you download the repair manual on this forum and look through the P0300 troubleshooting. There are a lot of things that you can just eliminate for free, and for those you can't just take it to a mechanic. It's still gonna be a heckuva lot cheaper than a new car.

agreed. You can check your pcv valve by taking it out and shaking it. If you hear a rattle, it's good. If it doesn't rattle, it's busted.

had mine for 3 months before the a/c went, 3rd gear went, and got a oil leak. reminded me a lot of my honda. but i fixed it all..now it just has a bad a/c switch (thats a shocker lulz) and battery needs a recharge.

Light came back on at 45 miles...it has been running excellent all day,
the CEL did not flash, but when it came on this time there was no change at all in its performance. I could really give a **** about the light...as long as it stays running smooth like this. Is there a bulb inside instrument cluster that i can just yank out? really!
Where i live here in east tennessee is all perfectly paved twistiing roads,
and this thing handles as well as my saleen mustang!
I'll check the PCV valve.....it was right in front of me and i never checked it.
I guess these cars are kinda like windows vista...everything has to be just right to work!

ha you think thats bad try a bad alt on a 04 6i causing the triptronic transmission to slam into reverse and 3rd gear(no 1st or 2nd)! See what the code is. It will more then likely be the same but you never know.

Edit: I take it your starting to enjoy the car once you get all the bugs worked out.

Here ya go:

Next step is a compression test.

Also, do a fuel flow test for volume (weak/failing pump or clogged sock filter).

Replace the PCV (especially if it doesn't rattle when you shake it).

Many of these problems are edemic to any car. Really. Most members get very good/excellent relaibility from these cars. Few complaints.

Agree'd. Any used car you buy has hidden problems. Its a crap shoot. I bought my P5 in august and have since fixed all the easter eggs left by the previous owner. Took time and patience but its worth it and a battle you will ALWAYS have with used cars. For what its worth I love the P5 and don't plan on ever selling it.

Yep, my car was the same way, bought it at the dealership used, they had it for a few weeks after I bought trying to fix it, it was under warranty at the time. They reprogrammed the ECM and the car was good until the recent idle issue. All used cars will have their issues, went through more problems that this with my Civic SI I had previoulsy.

Update

Its running as it should at the moment...light came on at 50 miles or so yesterday, never flashed, performance was unaffected.
put 30 miles on it with light on.......ran perfect!
Stopped to check & clear code and it was the PO421 zone 1....
cleared it...still runs as it should??
Thanks for the charts but i cannot read the PO300 photobucket post.

Uh, so are you done whining & bashing our beloved P5s?(braindead

did you download it and zoom in?

I did that and it make it ultra blurry and extremly hard on the eyes to even attempt to read it even on a 47 inch "monitor"! lol

Anyways I have uploaded the file as an attachment!
