who likes GUNS!?!?!??

Ok- statistics it is- total crime rates per capita in the UK 86.5 per 1000
United States 84.39 per 1000
Murders per capita UK .01 per 1000
United States .05 per 1000
Murders with firearms per capita
United States .03 per 1000
United Kingdom 0 per 1000 (but still number 32 in the top 100)

and a fun link- 80% of inmates got their guns to commit their crimes from an illegal source or from family/ or a street buy
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm

It is really amazing that there is really not that much difference in crime, considering we have handguns, rifles, etc. and the UK does not- I'll take my chances here thanks with our guns- one of the nice things about the US is we can disagree- and we both have the right to our beliefs:D

Hey, I saw those figures too. On an NRA website (NRA, we are the masters of disinformation). Good luck finding figures to accurately back that up in a way any decent statistician would approve of. Truth be told, I wouldn't trust the figures on the pro-gun control sites either. And as you said in your next post, since you can't prove causality it doesn't really matter how many people die, if you can't figure out the reason they are dying (that was in the CNN article I linked to). I simply quoted an article written by the British government that said violent crime was down 19% from 2000-2001. If the British government doesn't know how their own people are doing then how the hell does the NRA?

I can't prove that gun control has done any good, but then again most of the attempts at gun control have been pretty half assed with huge loopholes to get around them. People with half an ounce of sense in their brains should be able to see why it is stupid for them to be so belligerent anytime any restriction is placed on their "right" to purchase and own guns and it is about time this nation wrote some laws that made sense, required mandatory training for all firearms owners, mandatory licensing for every single damn gun, and a 10 year addition to the sentence of anyone who commits a crime with an illegal or unlicensed weapon.

:D God I hate to be a dick(well not really) I was hoping you would say something like that about the NRA. Just because I realise that the NRA is a very biased information source, I went out of my way to find an international database on everything from transportation to education to crime. Check out the site and is it perfect, no, that would not be possible. Is it a relatively unbiased source, sure-
http://nationmaster.com/

Now to your other point, training should be a given, I mean really, if you don't know how to be safe with and effectively use your weapon, you shouldn't own it, but that is just common sense, and there are too many laws already that TRY to substitute for common sense. And mandatory 10 years for using a gun in a crime???? :bs: Howabout a mandatory 10 year sentence for using a knife? Or a sword? Or your hands if you happen to be considered a lethal weapon through the training you have received?? All ways to injure someone should be considered a horrible thing, focusing on guns when we should be focusing on the why of the crime in the first place is just silly....

Arm everyone, that is your solution?

I would not want to trust the airlines with making sure only citizens get on planes with guns. They have enough trouble identifying people as it is.

and I would not want to trust YOU to kill a potential hijacker.

What if it was just a person of middle eastern decent who got up to go to the bathroom. 30 passengers would have their weapons out ready to blow his head off. . .30 passengers who didn't have to pass a proficiency exam with their weapon. 30 passengers who could easily shoot a inocent bystander by accident. 30 passengers who could pierce the pressurized cabin with their stray bullets.

I'm sorry, but every person with a gun is an accident waiting to happen. If you want to catch bad guys, become a police officer or join the army. They at least get the training required to carry their weapons.

I wouldn't have a problem with hand guns if every person had to go through the training a police officer does just to carry one.

I would agree with arm everyone- after all, the wild west was a polite society- armed and polite
And all it takes with guns is a little common sense-

1. You should buy a history book.
2. You should read it.
3. Yeah, that chick is pretty good looking.

And I said mandatory ten years for using an illegal or unlicensed weapon, it is called a deterrent. Kick some labor in there and make them generate the funds necessary to keep them in jail the additional ten years.

I browsed your source, kind of funny that the United States is #3 in total firearms murders (assuming accuracy) and the United Kingdom is #20. But I would blame that more on Americans being violent psychopaths rather than any lack of gun control on our part.

let me see, the UK is number 20, and they have banned their citizens from having firearms..... Gee, surprise! Robbery, murder, and other crimes will be commited, with guns, or knives, or whatever is available- I prefer to be on equal footing. So if Americans are all violent psycopaths, why haven't you left? Aren't you in fear for your life? And I was poking fun with the wild west comment, take a joke. And now are you going to make people license their kitchen knives?? Great the new rage sweeping the nation- the butter knife murders and the 10 years you face! Give me a break

Like my four foot double barrel carriage shotgun? It is part of the way the expression, "I get shotgun" came along when calling side seat with the driver. Mostly, getting shotgun involves protecting the carriage, in side saddle, with your big ole shotgun.

Kick-ass pic! Damn, I need to get me a digicam. Seriously though, tell about your double-barrel. Brand, model no, guage, etc. It looks very similar to mine.

We tried out some 9mm, and .40 black talons at the State H.P. range, and they weren't all that spectacular. Maybe you had some freaks or something, but our factory cor-bons outdid the Black Talons in Ballistic Gellatin at every distance we shot at. There's a bunch of rounds that will punch through Kevlar, not Kevlar and the Ballistic plate though... We shot and old vest with the plate in the back with an AK and steel core ammo, it almost punched through, but not quite.

That's pretty interesting about Talons vs Cor-bons. After reading that, I've been thinking about getting some and loading my Colt alternating them with Talons. How about Glaser Safety slugs? Any knowledge of their effectiveness? The Glaser's are WAY expensive($20+/6rds), but the Cor-bons are reasonably priced.

you might be one of the scariest mf-ers i know (just the term not the malicious version of mf-er).

my first suggestion is that we get off the lo-threadjack and post goofy bastards playing with weapons that are too powerful for them... (for everyone, myself included)
second suggestion is to think about the possibility of everyone on a plane armed to the teeth with concealed weapons... so what you're telling me is that you'd give McVeigh, Teddy Kozinsky(sp?), and that rabid-looking mf-er(in the bad sense) John Walker the right to carry on a plane with your kids on it?
thirdly, and i'm probably going to get flamed on this one, but I think that its highly likely that the framers of the Constitution were talking about musket loaders when they said that everyone has the right to carry to defend themselves from an oppressive government. someone said a while back in the thread now that he and his roomies could hold off a swat team for a little while. DOES THAT NOT SCARE ANYONE ELSE?!!! but in the end, if the government wants in then guess what, you are not going to stop them, that's what they've been trained for.

I have no problem with people having howitzer-like rifles in their houses (they are more intimidating to burgalars anyways, right?) for hunting and trying to keep out the government, but more often than not handguns tend to be involved in crimes and accidental deaths from "law-abiding" citizens.

flame away, but at some point it'd be cool for somebody else to post pics/vids of retards with penis envy.

There will always be idiots who abuse the freedoms of firearms ownership......I'm willing to live with that as it is the cost we pay for freedom. You can ban everything from guns to butter knives and put a video camera on every corner and have the safest country in the world......but at what cost?

If you'd feel more comfy on a plane where 5 guys armed with toenail clippers could hijack it and ram it into a building while you sit and watch then that's your choice......I'm just saying that I'd feel more comfortable being on a plane with other level-headed, responsible gun carriers such as myself. I have no wish to EVER shoot anyone and probably will never shoot anything but targets......I'm hardly a scary m-fer......just a BIG lover of the freedoms provided us by the founding fathers.......who IMHO worded the constitution in such a way on purpose in anticipation of advances in firearms.

We should probably start another thread to discuss the politics of this.......the starter of the thread keeps throwing "jack" hints.

OK, I started another thread about gun politics so we can stop threadjacking......my apologies for my part in the jack.

That being said, I'm really wanting to start shooting trap and skeet but I really want an autoloader.......anybody shoot trap or skeet with an autoloader shotgun? Are they accurate? I've priced some competition double barrel models and they're twice the price of an autoloader or a pumper.

man, is that fruit really blowing apart like that from a gunshot??? It looks like they stuck M-80's inside of them and blew them up then filmed the gun footage separate. If that's a .50cal Desert Eagle though then it may just be the gun.....I've never seen one shoot fruit before so I'm not sure myself. If it IS the gun, I'd sure hate to take a hit with one.....ouch!

yea thats what it does to melons..my pops has a IA baby eagle..still .50 cal..just blows s*** up..does damage my 1991 Match .45 can't do..

that's our very own katsmp3 in training for teh FBI (fuh-beee) ;)

Just to stick my nose in here, you can buy all the hanguns of the world, assault rifles, machine guns, smgs, hell, rpg's if you really feel like it and that's fine with me.
Just don't follow the stupid NRA instructions to always leave a loaded gun readily available. Lock that s*** up. Be smart aboot it.

I have a registered .22 rifle. Got it for like 20 bux with ammo. It fires, but I've never personally fired it.

We actually shot some Glasers that the company gave our dept. to test, and they did REALLY well in the ballistic gel out of a 6in barrel .357 mag.. The only reason we ended up going with corbon's instead of the Glaser's (like you mentioned)was the cost.

We cycle are duty ammo out every six months (really soon for most places) and it would have cost two damned much. The corbon ammo is usually made as a light grain bullet (ie: higher velocity) mixed with some heavy ass powder loads. (Usually rated +P). Hell, I think my .40 corbons are only 135 grain. I carry corbon when I am working (dept. guidelines only let us carry those and Federal Classics) and Federal Hydra-shoks when I am carrying personally.

I would definitely agree with what your saying about gun safety.

One thing about the NRA though, even though I cancelled my membership because I didn't care for all the political bulls*** they spout, they do have some really good programs for safety and firearms training. Heck, we had a Certified NRA instructor come out and teach a weekend long course at our state firing range for free for civilians, a similar course to what we took as police officers, just shorter. Some Jackass freak from the "political" NRA might say something about leaving guns laying around, but I know you'd never hear anything like that from an actual instructor. Heck, around here they give out free gun locks and stuff like that all the time at their classes to help keep firearms safe around kids and such.

There is some good from that organization, but its like there are two parts. The good (Firearm Safety Programs) and the bad (polictical craziness).... Oh well, if it weren't for my time in the military or the sherriff's office, I would probably have never owned a single firearm. Practiced safely, shooting really is a fun hobby/sport.
