Who has test-driven an RX-8?

I'm just letting people know how Mazda drivers are.

:wtf: you're just doing the same generalization he did with Hondas, there's no point in all this mudslinging :bs:

back on topic, still haven't driven an 8 yet, but drove my 7 last night, damn i love the sound and feel of the rotary engine!

(ok not really on topic, but anything is better than all the childish flaming/stereotyping going on)

You're right. He did make a childish comment. I'm not sure if it was in jest or not, but BAD Brian MP5T, BAD!!

And I acknowledge your eloquently written review. :)

However, it takes two to begin an internet war. I realize, being a mod, that it not always easy to cast off such comments, but we must remember to be the mature people that we know we are. :)

we need more mods like this on the forum! (k)

I am, too, a Mazda driver.

I am honored to gain your respect. You know, you are one of my fav members anyway. :)

And your rotary comment was on topic. :D

You were the one who said the RX8 is the best overall car, and you even compared it to a M3. It's not even in the same class, but if you think the RX8 IS a sports car, then you're wrong. A 4 seater, 4 door vehicle is not a sports car in any way. And don't forget, there's still a S2k and the NSX that you can compare the RX8 with, if you want.

I have to agree with him here. I've driven a E46 M3 before (even on a mtn run), M3 is WAY BEYOND RX8's level IMO. But I haven't driven an 8 before, so what the hell do I know right? :/

Not sure where you're going with this, but great! :D

Then you can appreciate the universality of my words. They apply to people who drive any make of car. :)

PreFknLude_SiR - At least you could be a man and say it to our faces here.

I never said the RX-8 was a god of all cars. I can't afford what I really want, but I am close...

If you have a gripe - say it to my avatar here and don't go spouting off on a different forum.

Nice integrity you ******* moron...

Hello Everyone!
I'm the other guy that test drove the RX-8 with PreFknLude_SiR. Our review of the car is unbiased, as we're fans of other makes as well, not just Hondas. We mainly compared the Prelude SH to the RX-8, because that's the only other car we can compare to as well as $7K+ price difference. I didn't want to compare it to the MR2 as it would have been unfair as the MR2 is a mid-engine platform vs. RX-8's FR. We went to the dealership with high hopes considering that it's from the rotary family. Throwing numbers and stats aside, the RX-8 does not handle nor have the power that I felt compared to the SH. I was thoroughly disappointed as I expected much more from an FR setup and that it's supposed to a much higher class compared to the lude. The rear end just likes to fish tail way too much. If there was any traction control, I did not feel it. As I was torturing the hell out of it, the CEL came on too. If anyone wants to do a really good comparison to a Honda, then it should be against the S2k, although I highly doubt it will put up much of a fight for the S2k. Mind you that I am no fan of the S2K as my opinion is that it's an overpriced POS. But honestly, anyone comparing this to the new M3 or a 911 turbo is just asking to be hit behind the head. An analogy of it would be, I've driven Supras, Z's, etc., and my Integra overall performs the best. And to the guy who said Honda = rice, that is just a dumb generalization.

So NSX's are rice?

If anyone wants to FI the Renisis motor, the main enemy to a rotory is heat. Even with the new improvements, do you really think the apex seals will hold up to the punishment from boost reliably? My suggestion is, before buying the RX-8, test drive other cars in it's class at least.

LOL.. Hondas are riced? My Prelude is nowhere near rice.
That's a hasty generalization. A comment like that makes me look down on you. I believe my experience of the test drive was written professionally; not biased at all. The RX8 has its good and bad points.

At the end, I'm also a Protege5 driver.

Btw, I sure as hell hope you had fun. Going from a P5 to a RX8 is a big step.

(drinks) (bluep5)

The stock RX-8 was nowhere as much fun to drive. It might be faster but my car is really violent, it slams you into the seat on 1st,2nd,3rd and pulls hard 4 and 5. I wouldn't trade it. I might get an RX-8 and My P5 but the P5 cost more to make than the RX-8 is new.

Don't worry about the Honda thing man, I was just trying to get a little rise out of you. They are a very popular car to tune. Perhaps too popular and that sucks, they are done everywhere...overdone.

I was just playing. My best friend has a white S2000. I have a great deal of respect for the car and the driver. It was never meant to be anything more that an ignorant joke. Sorry.

$299 a month for 60 months with a $3500 down payment. The car is only $26,000 fully equiped! 4 seats with 4 doors, with comfortable rear seats

Not only have I NOT heard of MT RX-8s nearly that cheap, BUT, ($299 x 60) + 3500 = 21,440, assuming no interest.

Are you sure your statement was accurate?

The salesman gave me (and MugenBB6) that deal, but we turned him down.

On the side note, did you know that the automatic version is only 191hp?

and no, 26k will NOT get you a fully equipped RX-8, even auto.

unless it was a USED RX-8..... then it's a different story.

Regardless, the car is still well worth the money. Automatic...No ******* Way. That totally defeats the point of having the joy of owning a sport (STYLE) car. :)

Only read a few of the post--but over here we have a TV prog called "top gear" and they have a proffesional driver test the cars round a circuit driving them to the max and it may surprise you to know that the M3,Nissan 350Z and RX-8 all had near identical times so i think you pays yer money and makes yer choice!!

Its definitely close when cornering is concerned, but get it on a straightaway and I think it will fall back.

Its still an incredible piece of engineering.

Excellent insight! (thumb)

After watching the clip, I noticed that the 911 Turbo was only .8 seconds quicker than the RX8 and M3? How is that possible..?
