who has replaced a fuel pump .. why?

no the connector i am referring to is this :

as you can see a bit of plastic where the copper was is chipped as well. Hopefully this can be mended. I'm screwed

The black wire attaches to the connector on the otherside of the black wire going to the main plug.Then the copper push style connector pushes into a pocket on the side of the basket.

Yes, it's a ground

I'm a n00b to all this but what exactly is it grounding? There are no exposed wires.

well I just put it on without the ground. it works good. what exactly is that ground for? I thought it was for the gas gauge but I was wrong...any takers?
