who has replaced a fuel pump .. why?

I didn't have to pull any charge piping out to install my Pierburg In-line pump. You just have to feed into the other side of the RRFPR. It works fine.

Really? When I was looking at mine, it looked like I would have to go digging. Which I didn't feel like doing.

great i cant even boost 5lbs now...im going lean...must be the fuel pump? seems to be getting progressively worse.

the pump is the problem - you have a mirror image of the problem i had. i am getting the tracking number for you as I write this

thanks man, drop me a pm when you get it.

so this same thing happened to you? s*** just stresses me out when my car isnt running right...nothing is worse than someone like me that doesnt like to have a project unfinished. "get car to run right" is actually on my to-do list.

eh we all been there. the worst part is when you have no clue on what is going on. give us an update on what happens.

as soon as i get the pump....problem being its going to bother me because im in the field from the 13th-23rd the whole time ill be stressin over it.

I'm about to install one. Can you not use the filter that came with the walbro? I want to put a new filter in there just as a precaution. Thanks guys

Also StuttersC where exactly did you zip tie it. I don't want to do any cutting myself either. I'm sure this will be a really dumb question once I open everything up.

Also if you cannot use the walbro filter where can I get that replacement at. Mazda told me I would need to buy the whole pump assembly...assholes

just use the stock one, it will be really clean dude. i had about 38k on mine the last time i messed with it, it looked brand new.

I'd rather still be cautious. Anyone know where it can be found? If not I guess I'll re-use it....bah! My pump broke from being clogged and overabused (too many close to e fillups) so I'd rather do as much as possible so that this one dosen't crap out on me.

I jusr rused my filter. Look at an auto parts place, they might be able to sell you one...

Supposedly there are two filters in there. I searched high and low on the forums and it looks like nobody ever changed these? I can't even find a link to someone that sells the replacement parts :( mazda wants me to buy the whole assembly for the goddam filter...sucks

there is no reason why you can't use the walbro filter if you do the install "sans-cutting". by that i mean the reason for all the cutting etc was to let you spin the pump around 180 deg cos the output and power plug are on the opposite side compared to stock so the fuel line doesn't line up.

If you simply find a way to angle the pump a little further forward (my 2nd gen has a nice mount made from metal instead of that plastic clip and i just had to bend it a couple of degrees) to bring the outlet back into line, you negate all the hassles of cutting s*** up and you can use the walbro filter. The only drawback is that you will also angle the power connector a bit more into the tank as well but who cares?
:D

The Wlbro 342 has the connectors on the correect side. The reason for cutting the plastic on the bottom is because the Wlabro is physically longer than the stock fuel pump.

All you need is the stock filter. Re-use it, it is fine. There is one filter that attaches to the bottom of the fuel upmp. That is it. It is at the pick up...

okay, fair enough. i used the rx7 pump which is obviously a little different but there is still no reason why instylz can't use the new filter that came with his pump if he wants to, it doesn't really matter. point being - don't go out and buy a new filter! (crazy)

guys i need help i tried the install today and the small black wire thats on its on popped off from the connector. I don't know where it goes and I need to get it back on! someone respond as soon as they can! thanks.

We now use a GSS340. The reason for this was so we could put a new filter on and so we could zip tie the pump alittle better.
The GSS341 is exactly the same as a GSS342 except the pickup is on the otherside. This will work in the Protege and let you install a new filter. The reason everyone is using the GSS342 and reusing the stock element is because of it facing aft. While the walbro one faces forward. The GSS341 will fix this issue.
Here are some pistures of a GSS340.

The black wire attaches next to the white plug, but just to the side of it on the basket.
If you don't understand, PM me with a number and I will call you.

Thanks,
Beau
