which upgrade?

thank you. I have decided to go with the SMIC; if the stock turbo cant flow more than the smic can handle, then i will wait to do a FMIC once i upgrade the turbo and engine internals that would actually require it.

since people have been mentioning it, what does the WGA do?

would this be good to buy @ the same time as the smic?

the waste gate actuator limits the amount of boost the turbocharger can kick out

through the use of a boost controller you can trick the wastegate into staying closed longer so you can raise the boost level, but you cannot go to a lower boost level than the wastegate is rated to

no need to replace the wastegate unless yours is bad, if it is bad then get the replacement part from atp turbo...it is more reliable and much cheaper than the dealroship wants for the stock wastegate

you can tell if your wastegate is bad by blowing into the vacuum line that hooks into the wastegate....if you cannot blow into it then its good, if you can blow into it then it is bad...youll have other symptoms as well but thats the easiest and most reliable test

oh.. and the midpipes - should i get these before a cat back system? wont it be restricted by the crappiest part of the exhaust system, therefor making it only a good upgrade to do all at once (i.e. turbo back exhaust)

get the mid pipe.. and if you can, get it catless..

just that makes on hell of a diff.

and it costs 200$

would the midpipe bolt right up to a catback system (like the corksport powerseries) at a later time, or would it be better to get the corksport catback which says it eliminates both cats.??

yes it will bolt right up

catless will always eliminate both cats, catted usually means one high flow cat

but only go catless if your state doesn't have laws against that, you will be faced with some pretty hefty fines if you get caught without cats, but thats only in a select few.

out here in california they will impound your car on the spot and fine you $1200 (actually I think it just got bumped to $2000 but I dont remember if that one got passed)

catless is the way to go for power, but the risks also gotta be factored in....if I were you I would only run the catless on the track and catted as a daily driver

the way i looked at it

SMIC for more piping thus increasing the off the line power (also called pepp :P)

FMIC for top end performance

I bought the custom SMIC because i wanted my car to be as fast off the line as possible, and ive achieved that pretty well with the SMIC. The car pulls insanly hard off the line and all i have is the SMIC, hardpipes and a injen CAI.

HOWEVER if i do upgrade the turbo, get a full exhaust kit, fuel managment the engine, i would switch over to a FMIC to get better top end.

Id say start out with a SMIC, its a pretty easy install

all i know is that im getting turbolife's FMIC for 675 and im going to enjoy my 7 PSI's with a FMIC just cause of the price. but i also wanted to buy a FMIC anyways cause of future plans ill be doing, aka' built motor, bigger turbo, ect. But i know im going to do that stuff within the next year so thats why i got it now. It just depends on how long you are planing on waiting to upgrade things. Every paycheck i buy atleast 1 thing for my car.

front mount intercooler. i got the Kinetic Fmic best setup i could find all them have flaws but this one. corksport requires removing the a/c fan and then you gotta buy the slim fans and there is not lag at all i dont care what anyone says i was running stock boost when i first got it and it made the world of a difference. now i got a unichip running 12psi and its amazing how fast my car is. i got a friend with a cobalt ss sc with a 3" pulley water/meth cai and exhaust and i blow him out of the water he is pushing 306whp he had it dyno'd

why is a bov a stupid mod, the only way to get rid of the compressor surge is a bov, now in terms of bovs that fit in the stock location you could hypothetically run the forge bov which goes in the stock location and not have to do a maf relocate and not have to worry about stalling? i was not aware of that
