Which Model do I have???

If by "temporarily automatic" means you plan is to convert it to manual, you would be MUCH BETTER off selling your car and buying another before you put any money into it. The differences of an auto to a manual are a lot more complex than you think, its more than just changing the transmission. I speak from experience. I needed a complete donor car to get through my swap. I had put too much time and money into my car to sell and re buy, I also got lucky finding the donor car, but believe me, never again will I do it to another car. If you want a manual, get one in the first place, period.

No young sir its not as hard as you think... I did a manny swap on my protege. Look I'm just disappointed that so many of you are crackin' jokes rather than helping. I know that this shouldnt be as difficult as it is. I expected to get an easy answer from Madza. Only reason why I care to know whether I have a 2.0 or 2.3 is cause I wanna boost it. I wanted to buy a cheap 3 cause I'm a big Mazda fan. This car cost me 9,900 and it only had 30k miles so I like the fact that I now have a Protege and a 3. With a vin# you can find out which model it is by goin to the dealer and they were of no true help, so I'm askin' y'all for help, not insults. P.S.- I couldnt find a Manny at the price I was willing to pay. I got what I wanted which is just the platform of a Mazda 3 to work from.

My insurance company told me I have an ES, which was clearly not true due to the 4 lug, rear drums, tan interior and lack of sun roof or fogs.

i have no problem with people asking basic questions for which they need help finding an answer. but the OP was acting desperate and confused, when all i did was google "2008 mazda3 trim levels." as though he couldn't do this himself? and, quite honestly, opening your post with "...i have no idea what model i have." is asking for trouble. not only that, but he bought the car from a dealership 4 months ago and STILL doesn't know what he's driving!

Look I want you to go to a non- Mazda dealership and take a look at a Mazda 3, without a buyers manual or it being a Mazdaspeed 3 how would you know exactly which trim it is. I'm not the Jackass you are. There are according to edmunds 16 different trim levels many of which look very similar. Aside from Grand touring and Speed 3's you can barely tell. So if I just wanted a base to start with at a price that I agreed with what would you have suggested? Now that I I did the research and its contradicting what I was told at an actual Mazda dealership you wanna pick at it. When I bought the car, i went on the computer the same day to see which I had. According to my features it appeared I had an S... but with there NOT being a 2.3 badge like i'm used to seeing I questioned it. So I had to wait until my extended warranty kicked in which is 3 months after the date of sale from a non-mazda dealership. so at my earliest convenience I went to my local mazda and was misinformed even further. I know all S models are supposed to come with the 2.3 and all iSports should come with the 2.0, however upon looking up my vin# the guy in parts tells me I have an S 2.0 and it says it in plain sight on the computer. So because I KNEW something with that had to be wrong, despite all my personal research, I figured i'd come on the forum and you guys should help me. Maybe there was an S model that I didnt know about prior to this that does come with the 2.0 or maybe the parts guys was just wrong. but i'd like to make sure. Thanx for the support JackASS!!!

first: how is anyone supposed to tell you what you have with no pictures and this the only information included in your original post: "I have a 4 door with basic features no fogs, and its temporarily an automatic."

second: if you have the knowledge and ability to swap a transmission and boost an engine then why can't you figure out what engine you have in the first place?

I'm going to call bs if you don't get some pics up. Can't be this difficult.

Simple solution, the 2.0 and 2.3 can't look alike. A quick search shows the 2.3 looks like this...

and the 2.0 looks like this...

looks like the 2.0 says "2.0" on the engine cover. this is not rocket science... it's a google search.

Pics!!! I dont BS

Here are the pics and yeah my engine bay looks like what you posted DUB. I hate this ugly ass Ice Blue though. And a pic of my Protege to boot...IMG00570.webp

I had to get my USB cord from my car so thats why the delay on the pics. and it doesnt say 2.0 nor does it say 2.3! I noticed that there is a difference between the '04 - '07 models and the '08 - '09 models. The 2.3 badge i believe is one of the differences.

They told me that I have an S but i know theres normally a 2.3 badge on the fender, plus i really wasnt sure if the S models came with the little baby sized 16's that I have. plus no fogs, and no sport grill, so I wanna make SURE.
