Which Headers Are Available for P5's?

no way!!! i didn't know that!!! oh man, mod away!!! ok, here's another question... if i get the awr header, would that also replace the downpipe from the first cat? or does it connect to that downpipe?

does it have a grommet hole for the O2 sensor somewhere in there? hmmm... i'm getting confused. nevermind...

Yes.. that much I do know. It does have bungs for the O2 sensor.
Also, the check engine light should not come on being that you are using that bung.

Just an FYI:

AWR's header replaces the OE exhaust manifold, 1st cat, and J-pipe. It is a direct fit to the secondary cat.

It has both O2 bungs, as well as an EGR bung in the OE location (read - no bending the OE EGR pipe to get it to fit.)

Tony from AWR states it will not throw an MIL/CEL. I told him I found that a tad hard to swallow... but if he's right, so be it.

If it does throw a low catalyst effeciency code, then PonyExpress's MIL fix for $20 will cure it. Big deal.

We have no idea what kind of power this is going to make. For me, peak numbers don't really mean s***. It's what's "under the curve" that I'm most interested in. Your mileage may vary.......

:p :D

That was sarcasim.....

The header is $499 + shipping. I have an arrangement with Mitch that I'll post dyno numbers after the install. This came with a nice price break.... ;)

It's here.....

Welds look good. EGR bung seems a bit "off kilter" but should work okay. The flange that mounts to the cylinder head is a bit warped. That bothers me. I put a straight edge across the mounting surface, not flat. It dips in the middle (outward.) I'd hate to tear everything apart, only to find out it's too warped to lay flat when bolted up.

But, I'm going to try and mount it up anyway. :D I've waited almost 3 weeks for this header!!

ive been wondering about this header for a while..... performance wise.
is that the mild steel one... if so do you have to coat it so it wont rust?

Not a problem. If it fits (without leaks at the head flange,) I'll be very happy. It's not a bad warp, but not perfectly flat none the less. Dyno results to follow after the ECU gets adjusted to the new airflow.

It's T304 stainless steel. Looks to me like everything is stainless as well (flanges, bungs, etc.)

Cheese -

Yes, that's a wheezer laying there. :D

IHI-VJ14. It needs a rebuild, but I'm in no hurry. Not like it's going to go bad sitting in my garage.... ;)

I agree

they did a beutiful job on the manifold:eek:

Other than the slight issue with the cylinder head flange. I hope this won't be a problem....

Either way it'll work out. Tony from AWR stated it shouldn't (I called him after posting these pics.) He's a really nice guy, and seems more than willing to help us out with this header. Always nice to talk directly to the fabricator.

I've decided to wait till tomorrow to start the install. I'll keep you all posted! :D

Take care,
Jim

i know tony and really is very knowledgable
he is a great guy to talk to about the proteges
i will be working with him this coming fall for suspension products for the mazda 6

Macdaddy...
Did you also get a gasket and bolts with the header? I ordered mine from mitch also (someday it will be shipped after his holidays), but not sure if I need anything else. I got the mil cheat ordered, but not sure about gasket and bolts. I'd rather put in new bolts when taking the old ones out. Any idea if the bolts with this header are the same size as for the awr? (that way can get dimensions from book).
Gasket?
