Which Headers Are Available for P5's?

CanMP5,

The biggest part was O2 sensor. I had a shop to drill a hole for the 2nd O2, and I had to order O2 simulator from casper electronics. AutoExe claims that the header will result in 8hp gain, but that is for 170hp Japanese Familia. I attached the closer look. The O2 sensor you see in this picture is not the one I drilled (a hole came with the header), the one I drilled is towards the end of the header.

Which one of the 3 simulators did you use (listed on casper elec site)????

Anyone know about this place

Eliminators are 1/2 price.

I ordered the AWR header and they said it will not throw the CEL light in their testing, but I seriously doubt it. I need a backup.

Yup

Eliminating the first cat leads to inspection failure, yes ? :(

If you're unfortunate enough to live in a state that does E check.

I don't. :D

Sorry, not to rub it in...... :p

Got one comimg as well. I seriously doubt it won't throw a code without a fix... but we shall see.

The Protege uses the same narrowband, heated, 4-wire O2 sensor as my WRX did (rear, the front was a psudeo wide band.)

The one for the WRX from www.ponyexpressperformance.com should work fine. That's what I'll use when the time comes....

Basline Dyno'd yesterday

RB Catback, Injen CAI, 4 point 4 gauge grounds, Mobil1 5w30, Sparcko plug wires. Automatic trans. I'll add the J-spec intake cam after the header install/dyno, and re-dyno as well.

~107 hp @ 5900 rpm
~110 lb/ft TQ @ 3600 rpm

Passen's printer was down, and I didn't get the exact numbers, but I did take a screen shot with the digi-cam.

Not as good as I'd like, but it's a start. 2nd gear pull gave the best HP, 3rd gear pull gave the best TQ.

When we tried the 1st run, there was slight detonation. So I ran out and filled the tank with Sunoco 94 octane (added almost 9 gallons.) The ECU still needs time to learn for this, so the numbers should be better after time with nothing else.

Please don't start on required octane... I don't want to hear it. My car has "pinged" slightly several times lately. I'm not taking any chances.

Hope to see the header this week. Numbers to follow.

Edit: FWIW, this was on 13.5 lb 16x7 Rota Slipstreams with 205/50/16 tires as well. Don't know if it makes a big difference, but just the same.

Hey macdaddy, have you ordered your MIL eliminator yet. I just emailed them and they said they did not know which one would work with ours, but to email them the color of the wires. I emailed them back and am awaiting their answer. My guess is the same as the wrx due to same color of wires, and i know o2 sensors are pretty generic.

I'd actually like to have it here when the header shows up, so if worst case happends, I can put it on. You going install the header without it and then buy it later??? Worst situation would be what?? just CEL, or rough running (limp mode?). Any guesses?

The one listed for the WRX should work fine. I've yet to pick one up, but if needed, that's what I'll use.

Worse situation, the header will throw a cat efficiency code. This shouldn't cause drivability issues, but will get on my nerves in a hurry. Stay tuned for more info.

Still waiting on my AWR header from Mitch. Has anyone received thiers yet? I was hoping to find it on my porch last night when I got home from work... no such luck.

I was supposed to get mine Monday. No luck.

Did you get your header yet? Mine will be waiting on me when I get home tonight (it's on the truck out for delivery right now.) :D

I might take Friday off to do the install. I hope to hell this wasn't a waste of money... as I spoke to Tony from AWR Monday evening. He has no dyno results, or anything to substantiate it's worth. I guess we shall see what she's got real soon.

Take care,
Jim

This is getting kind of old now.
It was supossed to be last monday, then it was this monday.
I don't know. Tony is really busy with his race cars, so I know this put him back a few weeks.

Hope to see one early next week. HOPE, that is.
We will see.

Patrick

Mackdaddy, if you can post some pic's.

hey patrick, won't the awr header make your car not pass emissions? cause if it doesn't matter, then i'll get one as well. i was under the assumption that you had to keep all cats in california. my car is still registered there so i'm holding off for now.

it might pass but you dont have to smog your car for 5 years now when you buy it new. so you could always bolt it back on. well thats in cali.
