On the back of the block under the intake manifold. I remove it from the top by reaching under the mani from the passenger side. Otherwise reach up from the bottom.

thanks so much I would have never found it. What a stupid spot to put it, i had to do it from underneath cause my hands were too big to turn in that small spot

Try changing the filter on a Cobalt SS/SC, simply retarded especially compared to the Protege.
