Where is my gas going?

General calculation for converting to miles per gallon: kilometers driven / # of liters to fill tank x 2.8.

I do 95% city driving with mine, though I (thankfully) have a short commute and am not stuck idling in traffic for long periods of time. Performance-wise, I have intake/ cat-back exhaust/ header, have been using Amsoil the past two oil changes, and I shift anywhere between 2700 and 3700 rpm, occasionally higher. I have also done the A/C mod (so that the A/C isn't automatically on when you have it on defrost, etc). I can consistently get 30 mpg in the city; on the highway (if there's no head or side wind), I can get to 35-36 mpg.

If the spark plug change doesn't fix things, I would seriously recommend taking it either to your local mechanic (if you have a good one that you trust) or to the dealer. Tell them what your problem is, and have them go through the entire car; it might cost you a bit of money, but I personally would rather spend the money diagnosing and fixing the problem - because it definitely sounds like something's not right - than keep throwing money in the gas tank.

Is the ECU reset really just 15 seconds? I thought it was 30.

Did you lose your radio presets when you did it? That'll tell you for sure.
Yeah it doesn't take long to drain the small amount of stored electricity(capacitors) in the system.

This is what I would do, sit outside my house, hidden from view, with a night vision goggle set and a rifle, and find the ****** that is siphoning your gas... I have, cai, header, exhaust, and I get ~400miles per tank. Check ur fuel tank, as well as the lines, maybe you have a leak...

my thoughts exactly! I actually had someone doing this to me once. I never would have considered the thought that one of my neighbors was stealing gas from me until I went out to leave my house late one night and caught the little bastard in the act. It was one of my neighbors kids, actually. after a few "kind" words, I never had much problem.

and seriously, get your car checked out. I've never heard of a protege getting 13mpg. that's horrible. I've bitched in the past because I can never seem to get to the 30mpg mark. even with 90% city driving, I pull at least 25mpg. Fuel injector cleaner helped a lot in the past when I was driving my last car. maybe a good idea? can't hurt when you're throwing money away on poor gas mileage.

I just cleaned my injectors w\ seafoam, ended up having a CEL come on, multiple random cyl misfires was the code. Reset it, and shes running like a champ, idles a bit smoother, plus watching smoke POUR out of the tailpipe is satisfying in many ways. Even if that stuff doesnt help with gas mileage, its fun to see your car dissapear in a smoke cloud.

I've been reading all the miles per tank and mpg threads from the past and stuff. I do about 95% city driving and I have never ever got more then 19.5 mpg.

That's beyond horrible. I'm 90% city and get around 24mpg (U.S.). When on long road trips I can get 29, but usually avg 27. I'm bone stock.

Well I found out what the cause was. I have 205-45-17 tires and I usually keep the pressure at 40 psi. For some reason the front passenger one was at 25 psi while the other 3 were at 37 psi. I couldn't even tell cause the tire is already so low plus the Fuzion side walls are really strong so the tire looked like all the others. I'll be sure if that was it on my next fill up.

That one tire would not drop your milage that much...Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

If it makes you feel better...I only get about 15-18 MPG in the city....

oh well then its probably the spark plugs. If its not that then i'll be putting the stock box back in to see if it changes.

Holy crap that mileage is the suckage. There's something wrong somewhere. Fuel pump and filter may have something to do with it, or your spark. may just have unignited fuel passing through. Crazy considering you should be getting well over 20mpg. I'm getting about 27-28mpg, mostly city driving. I'm getting probably around 650-675km per tank.

You lose your radio presets once you unplug the battery, whether you reset the ECU or not.

I did the calculation using us gallons, i guess its a close estimate. Basically since I bought the car 3 years ago I have 20,000 KM now and I have never got more then 450 KM out of a tank, thats about 95% city driving. Since I put the CAI in I'm getting 300 KM out of a full tank. I think a hummer gets better mileage.

300 KM! thats terrible, i get about 300 MI to a tank

650-675 km / tank... damn! My best is 650.. must be nice lol

You only get 15-18mpg around Dayton? Dayton traffic can't be any worse than Cincy! I get 25-27 mixed going through rolling hills, and lowest tank was 24, highest being 33 driving all highway on relatively flat ground.

It is, for one, the prices are kinda high, so good mileage is great, but I drive quite a bit too. To work and back 5 days a week, about a 25km drive one way, girlfriend lives about 40 minutes away, was going to school about 35 minutes away, and I always drive when we go snowboarding, so that's about 150km of driving. All my friends live near where I work too, so I'm driving out there alot too.

When I first got my P5 I got between 27 - 30 mpg. I would get 27 mpg in the dead of winter, and very very close to 30 mpg in the summer. This is mixed highway and city driving (75% highway, 25% city). I've gotten 33 mpg on pure highway.

However, now that my lovely state, MN, allows up to 20% ethanol in our gas, I can loose up to 3 mpg depending on how much ethanol is in the gas that I buy. Yay!!! And it's not any cheaper or cleaner (considering it takes more energy to make than gasoline, and I have to use more of it to get the same distance).

Also, the P5 doesn't get much for gains by driving it lightly... The difference between me driving it very lightly and "normal" (agressive) is about 1 mpg. Driving it hard will lose about 2 mpg. So drive it the way you want to :)
