The VERY best I ever got was 681km on a capfull tank. Yearly average is 8.49L/100km (27.7mpg US), and I drive mostly (95%) on the highway at about 105km/h, about 28000km/year. The P5 is a guzzler, no matter what you try.

In addition to the spark plugs, check your vacuum hoses/connections. Also, clean off your MAF wires with electrical contact cleaner. If you're using an oiled air filter, some of the oil may have built up on the MAF causing inaccurate readings.

8.49L/100km is 27.7mpg US??? Unless I'm using the wrong calculation (almost 100% sure I'm using US gallons), I've been averaging 27mpg which is about 11.5L/100km.

What I do is fill up every time I'm at the pump, write down my kms on the receipt, and divide the kms driven into litres used. That obviously gives me km/L. Then:

MPG = (km driven / 1.6) / (litres used / 3.785)

Am I using the wrong calculation? 3.785L = 1 US Gallon doesn't it?

I'm also using a PDA software called "Automobile" from www.linkesoft.com to keep track of fuel mileage.

And yes :
3.785L = 1 US gal.
4.546L = 1 Imperial gal.

wow, has no one mentioned checking the O2 sensor? in addition to the usual plugs/maf/air filter/tire pressure, if the o2 sensor goes out, it'll put the car in safe mode, horrible milegae, and not necessarily throw a cel.

hmmmm I have the software to plug into the obd2 port and watch the output; checking it is a bit involved for the home mechanic. you might just try replacing it, reset the ecu and see what happens. they tend to be pretty cheap, not a bad preventative thing to do.

You know what when I got my intake, like I said before it was used, the filter was loaded with oil I remember cause my hands were very oily when I was installing it to the piping. I'll take apart the intake and see if the maf is covered in oil. Very good point.

I have also done the A/C mod (so that the A/C isn't automatically on when you have it on defrost, etc). I can consistently get 30 mpg in the city; on the highway (if there's no head or side wind), I can get to 35-36 mpg.

What is this AC mod you talk of. I am going to check my owner's manual to see what you are refering to...

It's in the how to section. Even when you don't have the AC "running" or defrost on, it is still on and using you gas.

mmm, just got back from an all highway drive 380 miles using only 10.8 gallons (before 1/4 tank left) = 35 mpg.
