Where Is Mazda Headed Next?

Yeah, just cuz AWD hasn't been mentioned doesn't mean it won't be reality. Isn't there a current 6 on the world market somewhere with AWD? If so, then there is most likely your answer.

^pretty sure yes, and this was also rumored for us in the past..can't see how they wouldn't at least offer awd on top trim(s) for the NA market. If not: fail!

Do I hear a bet?
No bet.

This is an inbetween update. Easier and cheaper to add turbo to vehicle than AWD.

It should be noted that AWD is already available in some markets abeit on the wagon only. You would think they would have added it by now to other markets if they thought it was viable and not that costly.

If I am not mistaken, first generation Mazda 3 MPS (Mazdaspeed) was just a front wheel drive turbo and not AWD. They might be doing the same here

Maybe(isn't it like 6 years though) either way a new motor is a pretty heavy update and I believe Mazda knows better than anyone that high power/torque output sent to front wheels only is indeed a cheaper/easier option but also a flawed model that ultimately let the car and driver down in spirited situations.

If they already have AWD in other markets then it would be even easier to add it to the upcoming 6. Their on-demand AWD system is not exactly new, they have it in the CX-5, CX-9 etc.

Exactly. Since they can't provide a RWD setup, AWD will suffice, and is totally acceptable in the premium market.

I agree it should be easy but for what ever reason, it seems to be limited to sedan/wagon in Japan and just the wagon in Europe.

I have read atleast a few articles this morning and none make mention of AWD coming with 2.5T

You would atleast think if it was coming, it would have been mentioned (scratch)

Bang!!! You just said they have an AWD 6 sedan in Japan. Therefore the US will get it with AWD.

No arguments there but Mazda have in the recent past have made weird decisions (no 2.5T on new CX-5, no wagon 6 for USA) so I would not put it pass them to make the decision to not add AWD to the 2.5T 6.

I would be happy if I am wrong on this point but I am increasing getting the feeling I won't be

All will be revealed at the LA Motor Show launch. We'll wait and see.

Yes and has been for years but you guys didn't get it and neither did we.

So no conclusive evidence it will come.

Heck you guys were promised a diesel 6 and that never came.

Don't get me wrong, it makes lots of sense for the 2.5T 6 to come with AWD. All I am saying is it would have been mentioned in the articles just published.

Hope not/possibly..unless it was withheld for the sake of keeping some headline grabbing powder dry for now and then BANG

Or purely for $$$ reasons....

I would be more than happy to be wrong if the 2.5T 6 comes with AWD.
