Wheels and Springs.. Episode 2

No intention to be a royal pain in the ass, so thanks ahead of time for any help!

I've searched through the forum before posting trying to figure it out, but I haven't seen anything that answers my question, so I need some advice from anyone who may have tried this..

I posted before about putting the RX-8 wheels on the 3, and I know they would fit without lowering springs..

But my question is: If I put the 18's on a lowered 3 (the springs lower 1.25-1.5"), would the 225/45/18 tires fit?..

The key is the "45", because those are the stock tires already on the FREE rims I'm about to get and I want to know if I can get away with it and not have to buy new tires..

Has anyone ever tried this specific setup? And if so, what did you encounter?

That is very iffy. I wouldnt dare do that. I have 225/40r18 and sportlines and its pretty close. Then again, sportline is almost a 2 inch drop. I still wouldnt do it though.

ps.....what is noel? she is cute!

hell try free rims try it. and if they do. put ya stockers back on till ya can get some lower tires

Your not going to break anything... Itll just rub and annoy the s*** outta you. What is the RX8 offset and rim width?

The rims are the stock 18x8's, and I wasn't sure about the offset but from what I could find looking it up it's 50..

I was wrong about the minimum drop for the springs.. It's 1 1/24 (so 1.04") to 1.5..

And Noel is my chinchilla.. Her nose looks just like my avatar so I call her MazdaNose.. Supercute :)

225 45 18 is about an inch taller than the ones that came on the car. it will rub like crazy, and might break some of the clips that hold the bumper on depending on how bad they rub...being a rwd the wheels off the 8 are a different offset and will only add to the problem

People say they've put the stock rx-8's on a lowered 3 using 225/40/18 so I may just have to buy new tires.

I took the tape measure out to the cars last night and measured the height of both tires from the ground to the top of the tread, and with the wear on the rx-8's they're only about 0.5" taller than my 3's.. So it's worth a shot to see if by some miracle they fit as-is before I go buying extra stuff!

Thanks for the help!

The main problem i see if the width of the wheel. You may have to roll your rear fenders to get it to work.

if you're not going to listen to anyone who knows what they're talking about when they give you advice, then why ask? (fu)

I did listen. ??. I asked if they would work, and I got an answer, that's why I'm prepared to buy new tires. Did you see me ignoring you?

I've been here 3 days.. Do you have some kind of problem with me already?

here use this. next time you wanna see if a tire fits or not and if it's close to the OEM tire size use this. You dont wanna put on a wheel that is too much bigger or smaller cause than it's throw the speedo off and also the gear ratio. At the bottom where it says calculate tire size, you dont want the wheel to be to different of a percentage

thats way to different. dont go above like 1.5%. I forget the actual max percentage you can deviate from the stock size without worrying. If I find it, I'll tell you. But try to stay under 1% for now.

Either way, thanks for the help guys.

And thanks for being NICE to me!

I calculated the 225/40/18's and that was only 0.1%, so it sounds like I'm in the market to buy tires..

i dont see the 225/45's fitting. im pretty sure you will have some mean rubbing issues because 1) the rims are 8" wide and 2) your car is lowered.

haha, maybe its not but people ask recommendations and i recommend what i think its good. You probably have seen me recommend it all over the place cause a lot of people have been asking about tires lately thats all. feel free to chime in and recommned something else, im just very satisiied with these tires.
They may not be the best tires (to me they are great) but combine it with cost and noise level and i think they are the best out there.
