do you have a fuel regulator?

heres the thing, the screw on top of the engine, should be the idle adjustment...when i adjusted the same type screw on my bmw the idle would run from 500 to about 3000, whan i turn it on the mazda it does very little, maybe a difference of 500 rpm's from turning the screw all the way in to all the way out, doesn't sound right does it ? the idle should travel up and down as i turn the screw...right ? the idle adjustment looks like it is at the screw more to the front of the engine than the first screw. under/behind the piece to rev the engine is under the hood is a screw with what looks like an allen screw hole and a retaineing screw. if you turned this screw in a few it should increase the idle...(ughdance)

let me know if any of that makes sense...the bmw was much easier to work on.(glare)

it does increase, but you're right, only about 500 rpm up and down. its not like the bmw which is an air idle control, it adjusts your idle to maintain proper start up/warm idle. nothing to do with your air/fuel mixture, just the rpm the car idles at.

thanks for the info..:)

there was so much difference between the 2 i was confused.

how do you adjust the idle cable ? my other cars usually idle around 1000prm.

does the protege have most of its power in the upper rpm range ? it feels really strong between 3000 and 5000 rpms but i usually shift at 3000 so that doesn't help much, the only time i wind it out that far is on the highway ramps.

thanks again, every time i get a different model car i have to relearn everything...(ughdance)

i guess its the 1.5 DOHC, i checked the mileage when i first got it and it was about 31 average but i wasn't topped off and i didn't run it empty so that a rough figure, thought that sounded to high for the 1.8, my HP is about 95...?
