What would you rather have? Used GT or New Sport?

My wife and I have pretty much decided on the CX-9 for our next car. Our budget is about $25K so we can get either a new Sport or a used 07 GT for that price. What would you get if you had the choice? I know the differences are minimal for the model years, other than the engine for 07.

My wife is pretty short so we'd have to find a GT with the updated power rear hatch.

Any reliability issues with the first engine? Thanks all!

Oh and is the ride quality that harsh with the 20" rims on the GT? We haven't driven the GT yet, just found a local dealer advertising the used one for $25,888. My wife's coming from a 330i with the sports package, and the ride's become increasingly harsh the last few months.

New GT owner here, have to say I love it. Best CUV for the $$$. Now is the time to buy new, 8k off MSRP. Finance for an extra yr and get what you want, but hurry the choices are getting smaller. Mine had to be shipped from another dealer. It is not often when they discount 8k. Good luck.

Tough choice, but I know they've had more problems with the '07 than the '08s. The '09's are more refined in some areas that are particularly annoying for a lot of people here, i.e. nav, no trip computer. Don't know if the '09 Sports have the option for the rear lift gate. I don't think they do, so if that's something you have to have I don't know if you would be able to install it after the fact.

The ride quality does suffer a little bit on the 20's. I don't think it's that big of a deal, but it's definitely not like riding in a luxury sedan where you don't even feel the road.

My 2 local dealers which are the same owner have 10 2009 GT's on their lots. But it would still be $32K plus $3K in taxes, California has 9.25% sales tax now.

It's $10K over our budget and we can't really swing it. I found another dealer that has a used 08 Touring for $25K. That should be a good complement. We don't need Nav or a trip computer.

Balve,
2009 model is the 3rd year model. It has less TSBs and recalls on it.
If you don't like the troubles (noises, shaking, alignment, etc), I would advise you to take '09 Sports.
However, it depends on what you like on a GT that you love to have. Some of the features
can be replaced with aftermarket ones (such as GPS, better stereo, etc.)

We like the features with the GT but none of them are necessary. The leather looks great as well as the wood trim, but we can do without it.

The sport is still pretty loaded. I think we're going to make a push for the 08 Touring. Try and get $25K OTD.

My wife really wanted the features of the GT plus wanted the RSES, so we pretty much bought an 08 GT AWD loaded. It was used with 8300 miles, but we bought it wholesale at $27,750. You may not get so lucky yet on a used 08.

If you don't have to have the factory nav, then the touring still has the same heated leather seats and some of the other niceties. It doesn't have the power rear hatch, either. Still, it's a good compromise between the sport and GT.

The current 08 are about $25k-$28k with various options in my use car market. A good choice is the 08 Sport with the Bose / Moon roof combo. Will tell you the dealers are pushing the 09 out the door, so take a look at leasing (GT) as an option. (Major Discount for 09 models)

wow am i hearing about cx9s in the 20-30k range?!?! oh i forgot i live in Canada where the GT starts at 45k

We bought our '08 GT new last year for $27.5k. If you look when the '10 models start arriving, the dealers might get desperate to move some metal. You might want to hold out if you really want a GT and prefer new vs used.
