What the Two Stripes on The Left Fender Means ?

I Have seen this on many cars from now on and I was wondering what they means. I really like the way they look ant I'll surely put it on my MSP this summer.

I Also want to know if you have to put them on each fender or only the left one.

Its a GM thing..so if you wish for your MSP to be a chevy..go for it. THey are called Hash Marks and I forget what they stand for..but they were prevelent on vettes and camaro's.

I think it was a popular graphic skeem on some racecars from overseas. Can't remember the sanctioning body.

I remember BMW did that over the fender, it was on just one side.

At one point they were known as "rookie stripes". I can't remember where I heard/read that, but I did a quick google search and found this, so at least I know I didn't make it up.

Also, not just a GM thing, though they did do them from the factory on a special edition Corvette a few years ago.

This comes from old european road racing, along with the offset center stripe. It's to show which side the driver is on. Many euro races had left and right hand drive cars participate at the same time. Next time you see an idiot with the stripes on the wrong side, be sure to let them know what it means.

the no cone thing is probably an autocross joke.

I don't know what they mean, but I really liked them and had them on for about a year....took them off like 4 months ago for no reason. as you can see in my sig, mine where thinner and when the other way.

The stripes were a big thing in the Le Mans events some time ago. IIRC, they were used as such

1 stripe to indicate which side the driver is on in case of an overturned race car.
2 stripes to indicate that it is a rookie driving.

There was a car club back in 1960's USA that put them on their cars. It was a sort of distinction back then and is a more subtle way of stating which car club you belong to nowadays vs. the big ugly club sticker plastered on SUV's with wheels bigger than a New York pizza pie.

As far as the stripes that used to be on my car, I'm in no way a rookie.

Well I'll add those two Stripes to my next Summer Mods Finally ! I'll put them silver with a thin red stripe on the lower portion of the silver one. I'm sure it will look nice on my Black Mica MSP !!!

I actually kind of like them on mazpro's ride, but I don't dig 'em on the first pic. Too big. I'm surprised to find out that they actually have a significant racing meaning. It makes sense that track workers would need to know which side the driver was on in case of a wreck.
Yeah, the "no cone" is an auto-x thing.

it's a design point of view,u like, u do. the meanings are all correct. my dad has an 86 vette with them on b/c of racing. they actually came from the factory.
