What the heck is a resonator for?

Sorry if it is an ignorant question, but I'm not used to this. My cars have always been mustangs and they don't exist on them.

Does it have something to do with the muffler being on the end of the exhaust system? Does it have something to do with it being a 4 cyl? Is it for sound? Hell, I don't know. Help me out if you can. I'm really curious about this one.

It's just to help cancel out some of the noise the exhaust makes. Just get rid of it.

Well even the aftermarket exhausts come with them. What's up with that? What does it sound like without one?

they do? hmmmm I havn't seen a Cat-Back that comes with one....but then maybe there is one that does...

I have a Bosal Cat-Back exhaust system...and it specifically REMOVES the resonator and its replaced when you install the new pipe that goes from the last cat to the rear axel...

what does it sound like with out it? nice deep growl.....

A few mufflers come with one that is built in but doesn't really do much. They are starting to make them now with a removeable attachement.
Doesn't do much as mention just canceling out some noise. After all there are noise laws in most states that apply to cars. Interesting to note they do not apply to bikes, which are WAY louder than any car.

but how often to you see a bike compared to a car?
there are way more cars on the road than bikes
and if all cars had fart mufflers, damn, you will never
be able to sleep or get on with your life

LOL But I've never seen a single car near as loud as a bike. Plus rarely seen any Mustangs pulled over for their noise.
Agree on the number of bikes, but it isn't written as a general volume level. Just what your car can make Db wise. It isn't enforced much cause most cops don't carry the equipment to do anything. Most people get is to big of a tip.
